I "went back to work" for a few months this spring. I worked a lot from home and on Saturdays but the kids stayed with a sitter one morning a week. I was nervous about leaving them for so long--I often left before they woke up and didn't come home until after lunch. But they loved it and they loved her. I am glad we had that experience, and really glad that it was our choice. It would be hard to leave my kids every day especially if I had no choice.
We went to the beach on Memorial Day weekend because I refused to break a 28-year run and let a summer go by without going to the beach. Who knew if we would make it with a newborn. (Haven't so far.)
We did the day-trip Ocean City thing and it was SO fun. It was sweltering at our house, but the weather at the beach was amazing and the water was invigorating. I had not swum in the ocean while 9 months pregnant before, and I was slightly nervous about it, but we were right next to the lifeguard stand and I enjoyed every second in the waves. I hope we can sneak in another trip before summer ends, only this time I'd like to stay until dark and miss the afternoon bridge traffic.
We played in the sprinklers a lot in May and June. Sometimes our cute neighbor Emmy joined us. Around this time we realized Theo was allergic to something outside, because after an hour or two of sprinkler time he would come in with itchy red circles under his eyes which wouldn't go away for sometimes 24 hours. Finally I took him to an allergist this week and learned that he is allergic to...trees. Lame. We only have about a million trees in our neighborhood.
Then one day we had a baby.
