This picture has nothing to do with anything. I just think it's funny that the temporary duct tape and clothespin remedy (thanks be to Babs) is as far as I've progressed in the jimmy-rigged lampshade situation.
While Matt is enjoying ye olde Cougs tonight (a suitable reward because he spent the day taking care of the kids and landscaping the backyard) I am sitting home popping Halls and pondering whether I should go to church tomorrow. Would you like a glimpse into my week of idiocy? You would?
I spent Monday cleaning, like a scary amount of cleaning, fueled in part by my curiously insatiable devouring of this book and in part by the fact that I really haven't cleaned much since we moved here. My throat started feeling a little scratchy that night, but I still got up the next morning and took the kids for a run. By Tuesday night it was almost full-on sore but I thought it would still be a good idea to spend Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon sanding and spray-painting my dining room table...in the kitchen. After several coats it was clear that method was working out horribly for me, so, with my throat burning just a little bit by then, I nixed the spray-paint idea and spent Thursday night putting an oil-based primer on the table, planning to paint it with a brush on Friday.
Friday morning as I surveyed the damage, coughing, and wincing as I swallowed, I decided to clean it all up instead of painting. Since the entire main floor had a thin layer of white dust on it and the kitchen and hallway were strewn with various painting tools and accoutrements, I spent Friday doing a repeat of Monday's mega-clean.
Not surprisingly I started feeling a little crummy by Friday night and then I woke up before dawn this morning to what you might label a searing, white-hot blistering sensation in my throat. After a few hours of that I resigned myself to bed at Matt's command, subsisting on water and Advanced Vapor Action and a can of terrible food-storage chicken noodle soup. I also had ibuprofen, oh and toward the end of the day I topped it all off with a bowl of rocky road.
The package says only to take one cough drop every 2 hours, but these ones are "best by" June 2008, so that makes it OK to take one every 20 minutes. Right?
Side note, as evidence of my general weariness, you may like to know that I just put a wide-awake Theo to bed way earlier than he probably needed to go, allowing no less than the following to remain under the covers with him: 1 security blanket, 1 Raggedy Andy doll, 1 yellow monster doll, 1 battery-powered Pound Puppy (you didn't know they came in battery-powered, did you?), 1 water bottle, 1 set of popsicle molds, 1 set of measuring spoons, 1 plastic coffee mug with lid (aka his "blender"), 1 plastic cup, 1 plastic plate, 1 vegetable steamer, 1 plastic school bus, and 2 Matchbox cars.
Ida just has a blanket, Raggedy Ann, baby doll, and her own "blender." And 3 pacifiers and a water bottle. She probably would have smuggled in more but her arms are kind of tiny.

Eliza, that sounds horrible! You have my complete sympathy!
I'd say stay home from church because those will be three precious hours you can nurse yourself back to health in peace and quiet. Those three daytime hours on top of naptime? That's like a whole five hours total. You need it!
Or, um, go to church if you feel you should.
Hi Susie! You are probably right. I guess the only reason really to go to church is that I didn't get a sub for singing time. Completely my fault.
Hope you are feeling better!! Those fumes can't have been good for you!!
Did the big doll arrive?
The decision is long in the past, but I vote for staying home, both so you can recuperate and so no one else catches the same illness. Hope you feel better soon!
