My confession for today is that although I have not read any of Alexander Dumas's classic tomes (yet), I have seen the movie The Count of Monte Cristo at least 5 or 6 times if not more. That's a lot for such a random movie. I mean it's no Sound of Music or anything. And it's not as popular (or as good...or as overplayed) as The Princess Bride but it has the same kind of appeal to me.
It goes slowly downhill once Edmond escapes the Chateau d'If and you suddenly remember that the movie was made in the 2000s (Jacopo, anyone? "I'll kill them. I'll run up to Paris - bam, bam, bam, bam!"). But strangely I almost enjoy the movie's deterioration toward the end as the plot and the lines and the acting get more and more ridiculous. And I never get tired of the first half of the movie. Especially the priest/Dumbledorf. "SPEED OF HAND! Speed of mind."
Happy times. Go watch it tonight.

Maybe I will add it to our NetFlix queue!
My fave was the one with Richard Chamberlin in the 80's I think.
It's on Watch Instantly if you have that--you can watch it on your computer at Netflix.com.
I think you guys would like it! If you can handle the cheesy one-liners, that is. The Priest is great and so is all the stuff at the prison.
It is a family favorite at our house. We own it.
Loooove this movie. "Zatarra, I am your man." So corny, but so good. King's to you!
I love this movie! Although, I haven't watched it enough to quote. I like the sword fight at the end.
ummmmmmmmmm i've never seen it.
If you love the movie then you will LOVE the book. I read it two years ago and it is AMAZING!
Can we get together soon???
I do agree that it's a good movie. I watched it a long time ago, and then when we lived in London, our next door neighbor who was an actor said that he was in it. I came across it awhile later and sure enough there he was. It was way cooler now that I knew someone in it.
Hannah Hannah Hannah...never seen Veronica Mars, never seen Bourne Identity, never seen Count of Monte Cristo. It's like you've been living under a rock all these years. I'll bet you've never even seen Nosferatu.
Funny you should post this... I'm on page 300 of 1200 of the unabridged classic! I'm reading it on my iphone, very good book by the way.
that is my favorite movie i even love the book. I have seen 2 verison of it. The made for tv movie a long time ago and the new movie that came out 3-4 yrs ago
