For the suggestion box

Dear Forever 21 and Clothing Manufacturers Everywhere,
more specifically the people who write the stuff to go on the tags,

I think it would be best if you went into more detail on your tags' Care Instructions. If I had read on my new shirt's tag,

"Hand Wash Only, Because Even If You Wash It Separately on the Delicate/Slow/Cold Cycle, It Will to Your Dismay Lose Three Inches of Length, Though None of the Width,"

instead of merely, "Hand Wash," I would have taken you more seriously.

Sincerely,
A Disgruntled Customer

An aside: I really liked this shirt. Apparently enough to hunt down a photo of it on the Internet and write a blog post about it at 12:00 in the a.m. I don't think it photographs well though. My sister and nieces pointed out to me earlier this year that I wear a lot of stripes. After a brief shirt count in my closet I conceded the point. It is true. All I wear are turtlenecks, boatnecks, and stripes, and sometimes striped turtlenecks or striped boatnecks. Look, it works for me. Except, apparently, when it doesn't.

A second aside: Earlier this week I wrote an actual letter to a shoe company and signed it "A Disgruntled Customer." They sent me a free pair of shoes so I think it's probably the way to go from now on. Although somehow I just don't think Forever 21 employs a very generous customer service department, especially since it's my stupid fault the shirt shrank, as much as I'd like to blame it on the tag. Also, I don't think Forever 21 reads my blog.

Glad you got the shoe issue solved.

Sorry about the shrinkage.

Maybe Ella or Ara could fit into it.

Or Esme!

That's part of the problem--it only shrank lengthwise. It is short but it would still be too big for any of those girls because they are all too skinny.

It is still wearable, but I have to wear a shirt under it for the length and I hate doing that.

why were you disgruntled about the shoes? And did they just send you another pair of the same ones? Because that never makes sense to me - if people don't like what they got, why would they want another one?

I hate when that happens, I like long shirts and if I see a long shirt that's usually the main reason I like it and I wouldn't want it to shrink.

And Forever 21 would for sure not care. I was there the other night listening to a women get upset with them because her credit card had been charged three times for one transaction. They told her they would take it up with their corporate and that's all they could do.

Well, I actually did think about asking for another pair of the same shoes because I REALLY love the shoes. But when I asked the CS rep about it, she basically said to get a pair from a different season because the new season's line had more secure Velcro.

Which was precisely the problem--they are Ida's shoes and the Velcro completely came off. So I ordered a pair of different shoes from the same company and am looking for some heavy-duty glue and higher quality Velcro to fix Ida's old shoes.

I know Forever 21 wouldn't bat an eye if the shirt came to life and strangled my family in their sleep. I was mostly making fun of myself for not following the tag's directions...but it's true...Forever 21 does not care about its customers, and it doesn't need to, because at the very least teenyboppers will always keep going there to get cute, trendy, cheap stuff.

True, I watched a program on PBS about how Forever 21 uses sweat shops in CA to make their clothes and then doesn't pay the workers. The workers protested against them and followed the owners to their house but Forever 21 says that they employ a clothing manufactor who makes those decisions. This is probably true about a lot of places and probably more information than you cared to know but it was an interesting program.
