Since becoming a stay-at-home mom, I have been for the most part an impeccable housekeeper. I mean other than the fact that I forget to put away my shoes, I really have been a good housekeeper. But ever since Ida was born, I am not the housekeeper I used to be. The kitchen is the worst. It's the day-to-day that bogs me down, keeping up with dishes now that 2 messy (yet adorable) kids are eating every meal along with me. By lunchtime the place somehow looks like I invited 10 toddlers over for spaghetti, and by bedtime it's not much better. I blame this temporary lapse on lack of motivation, which I blame on fatigue, which I blame on lack of sleep.
So I'm very fortunate to have Matt to remind me how it works. Occasionally after surveying the mess (and often cleaning it up himself, the dear man) he kindly says, "You know, one thing that always works for me when I'm cooking is to clean up as I go!" So helpful!
You know, though, I really don't blame him. Occasionally I also offer my own "tips" when he is trying to fix something. For instance, the sliding screen door. Lately we have been struggling with that thing, due to a curious little boy who loves to open and close it constantly. When Matt gets home from work he drops his things and starts to work on it. From my perch on the couch I call out, "I think the problem is that the door is off the tracks." I know he appreciates my observations!

I have a genie these days - Dad hustles right and in cleans up. And yesterday at lunch, Hester and Donna hustled right in and cleaned up.
I could get used to it.
And every woman knows it works better to "clean as you go" but it isn't always feasible - and every woman knows what I mean!
