Seasons.

I love seasons. At the beginning of every season I get excited for the changes: changes in the weather, the light, the smells, the clothes, the food, the activities. Then, about halfway through, although I am still enjoying the current season, I start dreaming about the season to come. It never fails.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE summer, I love sunshine, I love shorts and flip-flops, I love long days and short nights, I love cooling off with an icy treat, and I am thoroughly enjoying going to the pool Every Single Day!

But we're coming up on August now and so, true to form, I am thinking about...sweaters; back-to-school sales; fireplaces (not that I have one); Mr. Boogedy; football games (in moderation); autumn morning sunlight; red, orange, and yellow leaves; pumpkin patches; hayrides; Matt's briny turkey; and last but not least, a delectable variety of pumpkiny, cinnamony, gingery, clovey treats...including but not limited to spicy peach jam.

Also, I really like going to craft stores in the fall. Michael's, A.C. Moore. Even JoAnn's. And of course halfway through September I will start dreaming about Christmas. (Pine trees! more sweaters! wrapping paper! candy canes! gingerbread houses! Neil Diamond party!)

This year--even as I enjoy the perks of not showering every day because hey, we go to the pool--I am particularly looking forward to two things about Fall 2008:

1) Babies!
2) Halloween!

I like Halloween more and more each year. This year I will have two kids to dress up--rest assured that there is a 100% chance I will not still be pregnant on October 31 ("Chance of departure today, 100%."), despite the fact that I recently had a dream about going into labor on Halloween night and desperately praying that the baby would come before November.

So, I need ideas for the babies. Not that they will be trick-or-treating--at least, I'm not planning on going, although I'll be happy to eat candy--but it's still fun to dress them up and someone has to throw a Halloween party. In case you've forgotten (Matt did), Theo was a mummy last year.

If you have a good idea and I use it, I'll send you some of my candy, and/or some spicy peach jam.

No matter what season or month it is, I am always wishing it is October/November.

You should dress your babies like a pair (raggedy ann and andy, my personal fave Alice and the Mad Hatter).

Don't forget the little Halloween sleepers I gave you for your new one - be sure he or she wears them at least once!!

And maybe they could go as Nancy and Sluggo!!

Or Archie and Veronica.

Or Superman and Superboy.

Or Lucy and Ricky.

Or Dan and Jean.

I'm not much help am I??

I've been thinking about Halloween costumes as well. I was sort of bummed that Nora was born in December, this is her first Halloween and she'll almost a year!

I was thinking about dressing her up as her favorite food, which is avocado, but I also like the idea of dressing her up as food in general. I've been thinking that a broccoli costume would be really cute.

I think it would be great to go with a theme for the two kids though.

All little girls look darling as Little Red Riding Hood - I've seen it done and the little red hoods flatter everyone who wears one.

Why didn't I ever think of that? And I had 4 girls to dress up!!

does someone know something i don't? am I having a girl?

although, theo would be up for dressing up as a girl. some people still think he is a girl anyway.

I love the fall also!

I don't really have any ideas for you. But I will think about it.

I gave you the mummy idea last year so am I exempt? Or do you need my genius again?

I've been talking about fall for the past couple of weeks, mostly because of the lack of AC in our apartment. I'd also be always excited for fall if I lived in VA too, because last fall was really fun and colorful.

Well, you could have a girl, so I mostly thought of girl/boy ideas.

But I certainly don't know anything - well, I don't know anything about what you're having except that it will either be a boy or a girl!!

Come on-Batman and Robin. It's a classic.
Red Riding Hood is very cute, but not so cute on a baby that is only weeks old. Especially if it's a boy.

We voted on our family Halloween costume tonight so I've been searching all over eBay looking for ideas. We'll see if we reveal before Halloween or not, in the spirit of the Cornwall's.

I feel that since Calvin and I both have birthdays in October that I must take the celebrations very seriously all month. Why is this?

Halloween is a huge deal for my family. My mom buys a ton of candy and decorates the house.
Here's a wonderful lobster costume. It makes me laugh.

Let's re-visit Mom's idea of Nancy and Sluggo. Who the heck are they??

I love bunting costumes for babies. So many possibilities!

Nancy and Sluggo are apparently from a comic strip. "Nancy, the titular and wily young lady who is constantly in the state of a daydream or confused plot....Sluggo is Nancy's age and is a poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks. There are strips that appear to place Sluggo as Nancy's boyfriend. He is portrayed as lazy, and his favorite pastime seems to be napping."

And let's not forget "Oona Goosepimple, the spooky-looking child who lived in a haunted house down the road from Nancy's." That's Halloweenish.
