Heels
I love, LOVE high heels. Not because they Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman. And not because they make my legs look great, and complete any outfit.
No, I love them because of the clacking noise they make on the floor when I walk.
I really love this! I’m not sure why, but the clacking thing is my favorite part about wearing high heels. However, I’ve suffered from a little bit of a high heels-related problem lately: they’re starting to hurt my feet and legs. It might be a psychological thing, because lately older women I meet have commented on my collection of sassy high heels, which I’ve been wearing a lot these past few months. One lady said, “I wish I could still wear shoes like that. But you can’t when you’re old.” Another lady told me, “I’ve noticed all your great high heels. But I want to warn you, I used to wear shoes like that every day, and now I have hammer toes and varicose veins, and I’ve had 2 foot surgeries.”
Yikes! It also doesn’t help that high heels, especially pointy ones, can be a little hard on the old toes. And varicose veins are pretty much inevitable in my family. So, understandably, I’ve cut back on my high heel time.
And I’ve crossed over to: kitten heels! They make the exact same great clacking noise when I walk, and they’re still pretty cute. Maybe slightly less sexy, but still quite attractive. And they look great with pants too. It helps that I got some really cute ones at Payless the other day for $7.99.
And that’s my kitten heel endorsement for today.

When I was in high school, they had "Heels Day" when we could wear high heels to school. You need to understand that students never got to wear high heels to school, so it was a really big deal - almost as big a deal as "Capri Day" because, yes, we weren't allowed to wear pants either. Although Helen Rynearson always did.
But I digress - heels are great - when you are looking at your legs in the shoe store mirror. After that they mostly just hurt. And I'm not a fan of the kitten heels - but they certainly are popular.
Age and the need for comfort will change your shoe wearing habits over the years - but enjoy them now - that's what they're for - unless you subscribe to the notion that men invented them to keep women subservient - how can they do anything in heels? is their supposed thought. An amusing assumption - I'm not sure who thought that one up - probably a 60's radical or something!
Oh, but you'd like these kitten heels, Barb.
