Thanks for veterans

For many Veterans Days now, just about every Veterans Day that we've lived here, I have gone to the National Mall to pay my respects at the war memorials. Once we started having kids, I brought the kids. We have also greeted Honor Flights at Reagan Airport a few times. This year and last year, a big outing just hasn't fit in with the day. I guess the kids are getting older and life is getting more complicated. Next year they'll all be in school all day and I think I'll at least take out my two younger ones, since they won't otherwise have the memories of the day that Theo and Ida do.

Today between work and school and piano lessons, we didn't even make time to go to a local cemetery to visit the Civil War veterans (that's our backup if we don't make it downtown), so instead the kids and I talked about Veterans Day and decided to donate to the American Legion. I am thankful for our soldiers' sacrifices, and equally thankful for their families' sacrifices, and I am thankful to live in this prosperous country that still stands for justice and freedom.
