Today’s adventure

This morning at the park, Lars wiped out hard on his skateboard, landing right on his face. He had been wearing his helmet (CAN I JUST SAY, THANK HEAVENS FOR THAT!) but he had the beginning of a black eye, said his vision was blurry, kept closing his eyes, and responded slowly to my questions.

I had not had breakfast yet, it was hot and humid, I happen to be on my period, and I’m prone to fainting and also to panicking. Sooo....

No, I didn’t faint, but I came pretty close. I was at one point on my hands and knees on the sidewalk, asking Ida to find an adult to help me. “Hot mess” would be an apt description. Neither Lars nor I could walk very well, so one friend took my other kids and another friend drove Lars and me to urgent care, where they checked him out and said he needed to go to the hospital. Matt left work, took me home and took Lars to the ER. Between them, my friends took care of my other kids the rest of the day. Because they are awesome.

All’s well that ends well. By the time Lars got to the ER it had been about 2 hours since his fall, and he was already feeling better and his vision had improved.

The doctor prescribed a few days of avoiding skateboarding, biking, sports, screens, and reading. Good luck to all of us!

It’s been 9 hours now, and he is basically like 95% back to regular old Lars. I could just cry. (um... and I did.) Here has been my inner prayer on loop ever since he got home from the hospital:

Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Amen.

Oh dear - such a difficult day - so happy the outcome has been good - where would we be without friends? What do people do who don't have friends??
