X marks the spot

(...circle and a dot)

Random photo (of a giant truck-lobster spotted in the Trader Joe’s parking lot) to accompany my post today, which is about how I feel overwhelmed by my calling at church every once in a while.

Maybe I am the truck, and being primary president is the lobster. Or maybe it’s unrelated and just a funny thing to have on the back of a truck.

I am a self-proclaimed “social introvert” because I like to connect with people—one-on-one or small groups being my preference—but I also need time to be quiet. I think this weekend (and last weekend frankly) I had too much of the first type of time and not enough of the second.

I was less than charitable to someone at church today, and it was because I was trying to protect myself from taking on too much. Without thinking about how there might be a middle ground, without searching for ways to help this person, I effectively put up my arms in an “X” shape. (Not literally, but pretty close to literally.)

Anywho, tomorrow is a new day, a new week, still lots of obligations, but I have some time built in here and there just to be quiet. May I learn to protect that, without feeling bad about it. Amen. (Or “Amen, the end,” as Polly prefers to say.)

Don't be too hard on yourself - you are the best judge of what is right for you!

I strongly believe you should never overburden yourself because you are expected to do everything. How can you help anyone if you aren’t helping yourself? I had a random memory of when new callings were announced in church like reorganizing the bishopric and how people in the congregation would gasp and I now I can’t stop laughing. A calling of your magnitude must have elicited some kind of response. Am I right or am I right am I right right right

As someone who has to ask a lot of people to do things - I always appreciate a no instead of a yes and the job not happening. so i say go with what you need to do.
