Shalene Flanagan, winner of the women’s NYC marathon (first American winner since 1977)
There’s no high like a spectator’s high. Am I right??
I have been at lots of marathon finish lines, and it is incredibly inspirational. Tears, pouring down my cheeks... after having done... nothing. I will probably never run a marathon (though I’m not ruling out the possibility) but I have achieved other personal goals through hard work and tears and sweat. It feels so good to achieve like that. It feels even better to do it with the encouragement of friends and family, and if it’s a race, happy supportive strangers.
Thanks to all the athletes out there, showing us how to get it done.
