Snow and other stuff.

Well, I just wrote an entire post about periods, which I then didn't publish because I wasn't sure if it was oversharing. (OK, I knew it was oversharing.) Suffice it to say that periods are back in my life after 2+ years off; Ida learned about them recently and she was horrified and fascinated; and I have entered the 21st century in terms of period management. (Loving my app which sends both me and Matt notifications when PMS is on the horizon) Also I'm trying not to think about how I have a good 20ish more years minimum of this.

Anywho, this is one of my favorite pictures of my kids. It was going to be my Christmas card in 2013--I think I even went as far as designing it, but not printing it. Matt and I were just discussing how the rest of the country is getting snow and we've got nothin'. Just 2 measly inches back in early January. I really want one big snow like we had last year. Last year was perfect, actually. We got like 3 feet of snow at once, which lasted for three or four fun days of sledding, and then it all melted within 2 weeks--literally. And that was the only real big snowfall. It was a perfect winter of snow, in my opinion.

But oh well.

This is turning out to be a really complainy post and I really didn't intend that. I am feeling great on my version of Whole 30, which has evolved to include whole grains, legumes, and the very occasional dairy or sugar. The best thing is the massive amounts of greens I am eating, which I know is going to be hard to keep up in the long run, because I just don't like them. But when I make myself eat them, I feel so much better.

I am also just feeling very happy in general lately. I'm not sure if it's my hormones settling down, or if it's because I'm eating better, or if it's because I'm reading the scriptures every day. Maybe all of those things. Maybe it's because I have so much to be thankful for. Maybe it's because I take antidepressants and vitamin C. Maybe it's hormones. Maybe it's because we got a new bed for Christmas. Maybe it's because after several weeks of inexplicable grumpiness and volatility (truly inexplicable, or are the holidays just hard for him? Pondering that), Theo seems to be in a decent mood. Maybe it's because after several weeks of everyone taking turns being sick, everyone at my house is healthy, minus Polly's current snotty nose. Maybe it's because besides flus and colds, everyone at my house is healthy in general. Maybe it's because the women's marches left me feeling hopeful, even though the whole abortion discussion is rearing its ugly head. (P.S. I have an abortion post brewing. I know you're dying to read it. I have lots and lots of thoughts on this. They may surprise you. "This Woman's Views on Abortion May Surprise You") Maybe it's because I love being Primary president so much. Maybe it's because I am keeping busy with mostly good things.

Maybe!

Yep, snowing again here. I think one big snowstorm a year would be perfect. Oh well. We'll try to send some of this your way. Good luck eating those greens!

It's been sooooo long since I read your blog or any blog, and I forget how much fun they are. About abortion: I was anti until I watched a foreign film called something like four months three weeks. About communist Romania where a university student gets pregnant and if caught she will be exiled to the countryside for life etc. she and her friend are both raped by the abortion doc on top of paying him, etc. so how about our government creates a culture of profamily. That family IS the point rather than earning money and career advancement. In this, it makes policies to encourage adoption culture and helping single moms. And abortion is an option, but the Last Option. And birth control pills should so be OTC!!!!!

All this being said. I can't imagine raising my kids without a husband. And without his family's help, and with the church to back us up. Part of the reason we all con go forward with larger than average families is because our culture supports it. Ok, I need to try to sleep now!
