Thanks for the vote.

When I was a kid my house was a polling place. My parents pushed back the furniture up against the walls, and big wooden booths filled our tiny living room. Neighbors streamed in and out of the house all day and into the night. I thought it was normal, but now that I'm a grownup I realize that it was...not really normal! My parents' doing their civic duty in that small way stuck with me, and I make a big deal every Election Day of dragging my kids along with me to the polls. I love it. They love it. We're a sight to see. It's such a big deal to me that I can vote. I recommend the movie Suffragette, if you haven't seen it.

I voted for my girl Hillary today and Ida helped me push my ballot through the scanner. I would have let the boys help me too but they didn't want to. Theo says he'd vote for Gary Johnson, and Lars says he'd vote for Donald Trump. Oh well. That's why they don't let 5-year-olds vote, amiright?

Funny how you remember it - it was really only for 4 or 5 years - maybe less - and often just local elections - not sure if we even did a national election. But then, local elections are a pretty big deal! It was interesting though. And a great way to meet the neighbors!!

4 or 5 years is a good chunk of childhood!
