Thanks for nursing.

I'm so glad I was able to breastfeed all four of my kids for more or less about a year each. It wasn't something I ever considered not doing, but I didn't realize how hard it could be at times. Four bitter rounds of mastitis with Polly and one each with Lars and Ida. Somehow I never got mastitis with Theo, but there was a steep learning curve when I first tried nursing him almost 10 years ago. I remember specifically that it took 10 weeks of trying before it didn't hurt every time.

Now here I am somehow still nursing my 18-month-old, who has become super bossy about it. Yes, I am one of those moms now. Is it because she's the forever youngest? Is it because she's a thumb-sucker? I don't know. I don't mind. For now anyway. Even though she's so bossy now about public nursing, and I'm usually trying to juggle too many other things (& people) to refuse her. For example, she threw a fit yesterday at church and I wound up nursing her during the sacrament. Those deacons can't unsee that, but I'm sure they'll be fine. Well, I hope so anyway.

The more nursing happens "naturally" the more it won't be such a big deal - at least there are some who keep wanting to make it a big deal. I see women at church nursing in the meeting rather than leaving - and I applaud them!

I love nursing. It has been such a special bond for Ellie and me. I love that even when I am gone all day she still wants to nurse.

I am grateful for your encouragement about nursing!
