Thanks for modern medicine.

Since last week, I've taken Polly to urgent care to be treated for croup; the pediatrician to get up to date on her vaccinations; and the pediatrician again because of a freaky rash that's moving all around her body and that apparently is an autoimmune response to the croup (not to the vaccinations).

And that's nothing. Over the years we have been to the doctor, the dentist, the allergist, the ER, urgent care, the delivery room, the operating room. We have received antibiotics through pills, liquids, IV injections. We have gotten X-rays, fillings, root canals. (And by "we" in that sentence I really mean Matt...) We have gotten CT scans, MRIs, a lumbar puncture (sad face--that was Baby Lars at the ER in 2011), EKGs, echocardiograms, sonograms. We carry ibuprofen, Benadryl, and Epi-pens. Phew! And that's nothing compared to what some families go through. Fortunately I trust that, heaven forbid, we ever need chemo or other lifesaving treatments, we'd find the best hands to be in. I might complain about our health insurance costs sometimes, but I'm absolutely willing to pay any and all of it in exchange for the wonderful medical care we have access to.
