Lately in the mornings I've started walking Theo just across our street to the school property line, instead of walking him all the way to the front of the building. It saves me a lot of time, and it's darn cold so I appreciate it. And it's a little slice of independence for him. So, after leaving me, he walks down a long sidewalk, across a parking lot crosswalk (manned by student crossing guards), then over another shorter sidewalk and around a corner to the front of the school. The first time I did this, he begged me to stay for a minute and watch him walk. So I did, and I still do, because every day now, he turns around every 10 seconds or so and waves to me, sometimes having to jump up or crouch down to catch my eye if he's surrounded by people. Then he goes around the bend and out of sight. I adore it. The sight of him all bundled up with his little backpack and his little jacket hood over his head, on his way to his big day at school, just makes me want to love him and take care of him and be his mother. Oh wait! Lucky me. I am so thankful for my firstborn, my darling Theo.
Only two Theo quotes...
"While you were burping I thought you were man-talking." (well that's lovely)
I asked about his substitute gym teacher "Was it a man or a woman? A Mr. or a Mrs.?" Theo: "It was a Mr., but I don't know what his Mr. name was."
