Please don't give up on me! I'm sorry I stopped blogging. And that I stopped with the Friday photos. I am aiming for this Friday. (and if I miss...well...Friday comes every week, right?)
March has been a good month. I have hardly slept at all in March but I have had a lot of fun. I mean no one has asked to buy the movie rights or anything but really, I have had some good times. With my husband, with my kids, with my family, with my girlfriends. I am a definite introvert but I have a few girlfriends who I can just totally be myself with and I love it. I love that I can spend a couple of days--for my dear friend Katie's wedding--with girlfriends from high school and it's like no time has passed, even though we see each other once a year, if that.
It does help when you frolic down the middle of the street in a line, wearing uncomfortable shoes and laughing together.
I love that Matt told me "Live a little!" and encouraged me to go see Hunger Games in the middle of the freaking night even though we have gotten no sleep in March. Because, it was fun and invigorating to talk with friends. (Even though I honestly didn't love the movie.)
Introverts (as you may know if you are one or love one) "charge their batteries" by spending time alone, whereas extroverts "charge their batteries" by spending time with others. I speak so very authoritatively on this because I read The Hidden Gifts of Your Introverted Child, recommended by Kacy, which turned out to be one of my favorite books I've read in the past year. Anyway, so it's true. I like to be alone. It's not that my own company is so wonderful or anything, but I just love not having to talk, or worry about saying the wrong thing. (I have a bit of social anxiety that causes me to rewind awkward moments over...and over...) Ever since I was a kid I relished the thought of a Friday night with NO plans but staying home and reading a book, watching TV, or rearranging my bedroom furniture.
But even we hermit types need to get out from time to time and I do love spending time with friends as well as making new friends, and I get a different kind of charge from that. I spend so much time with my kids (and so little time truly alone) that when I do spend time with other women and discuss things with them and learn from them, it's like wiping away a layer of dust on my brain and--[squints]--yes, I recognize myself somewhere in there!
Anyway, just some thoughts for a Saturday night. The other thought I have to share with you is that since going back off the wagon (the dairy-free wagon) I have made it my mission to find the perfect combination of chocolate ice cream and peanut butter. I quite like the concoction I made up myself with Wegman's premium Dark Chocolate ice cream (so good) topped with melted chunky peanut butter. But so far, as far as grocery store offerings go, Target's gourmet-ish brand (Archer Farms?? don't remember) is the winner hands-down. Turkey Hill, EHHHH (that's a buzzer noise). It looked promising (milk and cream were the top ingredients, and it was loaded with peanut butter swirl) but it disappointed. Edy's, EHHHHHHHHH (it's not even ice cream! IT'S A "DAIRY DESSERT"!! EDY'S, I WANT MY MONEY BACK!) I do remember loving Baskin Robbins peanut butter chocolate. I'll have to try that one this week, maybe do some sort of scientific test comparing the BR and Target versions.
So as you can see I have a lot going on, between watching Hunger Games in the middle of the night and testing every brand of chocolate peanut butter ice cream.
Oh--also in March I took a police-sponsored self-defense class, which I totally loved. Don't mess with me.
Also I discovered upon some recent web-surfing that I really like Mayim Bialik. These are the kinds of things I never knew about myself. And maybe you never knew about me. Now we both know. What a relief.

It was so good to see you and Lars. Having you here made the wedding that much more special. As far as peanut butter chocolate ice cream goes, I am a huge fan. One of my favorites is Haagen Dazs, but nothing can beat the Baskin Robbins peanut butter chocolate. When I was pregnant with Katie that was my lunch pretty much everyday. I justified it by saying I was getting my calcium. You know, whatever it takes to convince yourself ice cream is healthy.
Believe it or not I truly believe that I am an introvert - I totally get what you are saying. Or maybe it's that this weekend I have had no time alone - and these empty nest years have gotten me somewhat hooked on being alone!! But I'd take being with you or any of my girls over being alone - or being with all 4 of you at once!
So funny, Eliza. I'd never think you'd have social anxiety because you're so cool. Seriously. I do the same thing, especially about things I say in Sunday School or relief society. I'm trying to never judge anyone else's comments so I can hope people do the same with me.
Also, I recently read up about Mayim Bialik and I can't stand her! I wondered who liked her. I'll have to respect her ideas a little more now since you do!
And I think I'm majorly extroverted, but I also NEED my own time every day alone, just chilling, or else I feel so frazzled by the end of the day. I'm probably 60/40. Just in case you wondered....
I have laughed at Mayim Bialik on big bang theory. I have enjoyed learning how educated she is and how she is practicing her religion.
No opinion on the chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Sorry.
I never used to think I was an introvert, but I do like my home time. I don't really get much alone time. I have a friend who is always out and about, she doesn't like to stay at home and I am just amazed by that.
I think I am a bit of an introvert myself and that I also have social anxiety. It was so good to see you when you came out here!
Yes to being an introvert.
Yes to social anxiety. (Not an endorsement, but an acknowledgement!)
Still unsure about Mayim Bialik.
