I have my own pictures but finding the USB cord and uploading them is asking too much of me. This is Hannah's.
We went to Boston for the weekend and it was FUN! Perfect running weather yesterday. We were also in New York for an evening on the way up because Matt was already there for work so we met him halfway. I love going to Boston to cheer my dad on at the marathon and I always get teary when I see runners on the course, particularly the people who are running in memory of loved ones or as a tribute to their own fight with cancer or another disease. 27,000 people running it for 27,000 reasons. Having either been pregnant or just had a baby every time I've been to this marathon, these things might factor in to the teariness.
I also love seeing my dad stride up to us at his appointed time midway through the course. Despite its hugeness, the Boston Marathon is so organized, you can receive text messages letting you know when your runner is going to be at a certain spot. Pretty nice for logistics.
My kids were awesome, resilient, silly, and happy on the trip. With the occasional horrible meltdown--those are to be expected. I ate a lot of food. I took maybe 5 pictures. (I'm so bad at that.) We rolled into our driveway last night a little before 3 a.m. Ida woke up at 7:30 today anyway and Theo was up by 8:30.
But you know what, for the first time in my 28 years I was prepared to get home from a trip. (though not prepared to say goodbye to my parents--that is always difficult for me.) I cleaned my entire house before we left and I unpacked before going to bed last night and I already have laundry started. It's spring break and my birthday so today we are doing nothing except watching Winnie the Pooh and doing whatever else we feel like. Maybe we will get dressed? Dare I hope some of us will even nap?
I am ignoring my lengthy to-do list (mainly "to-call" and "to-email"...how do these lists get so long? is it all the ignoring?) at least for the morning. The fighting, which will surely commence as it does every day, has not yet broken out between Bossy Pants and Teaser Face--those would be Theo and Ida, respectively. So...happy birthday to me, and I actually mean that!

We find it hard to say goodbye too - and miss you guys already!!
Have a happy day though!!
Yeah! Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday to you! As the designated old fogey in the family, I remember the day of your birth. I remember the note mom left me to let me know they had left for the hospital. We were all so excited to have you join the family.
So glad you had a good trip! I always find myself to be more organized when I am pregnant, maybe it's out of fear or something. Who knows?
Happy Birthday!
I think it is great that you got up there to see the race. Your dad is amazing to do that. Have you seen Marathon? It is a documentary about (wait for it) marathons and I thought it was awesome. It just about got me pumped to train for one but then I did the half last month and that killed that goal off.
Also, the more I learn about your parents the more I want to find out specific techniques or even just things they did that were not meant to be techniques as parents. I still want to get a copy of your father's day talk. Might I suggest this as another blog post topic? :)
Here's hoping you had a relaxing birthday!
fathers' day. correction.
Happy Birthday!!!!!!
Thanks for the good wishes, everyone. :)
Chris, welcome! I am trying to figure out if I know who you are. I probably do and am just having a senior moment. Even though I have some years to go before that's a legitimate excuse. Mom-brain moment?
Alexandra, were you in our ward when I gave that talk? Maybe I will post it. The talk is nothing special, but my dad is. :)
Harry and Babs, feel free to chime in with all of your multitudinous parenting secrets!
