A tree that you come home to

"If you become a bird and fly away from me," said his mother, "I will be a tree that you come home to."

One of my favorite lines (courtesy Margaret Wise Brown) which I have posted about before. Just something I have been thinking about lately again. My kids keep getting older and more independent, especially Theo, who has been doing all kinds of crazy growing this year--physically, emotionally, mentally. You wouldn't think that a 4-year-old's troubles and adventures could make a mom's heart stretch and break like that. I love it actually, and as close as I still keep my kids to me, I also encourage them to step out of their comfort zones and try new things.

But I still hug them about 40 times a day. I still always want them to know that I am here.

Try looking back over 40+ years!!

You are always a mother. It never ends.

You're a great mom and your kids love you.

Although, I was happy to hear Ida crying while saying, "I want to stay there." I believe that is a first for me.
