Laundry

We had a good amount of midnight barfing at our house earlier this week and I was already behind on laundry. Consequently I did about 12 loads over the course of 2 days. Last night I said to Matt, "I'm almost done with the laundry! Just 2 loads left!" His so-very-amusing response was, "Sure, that's one way of looking at it." Nice. Very nice, thanks for that, buddy!

Don't think he was being jerky or anything, it actually was funny, and true. Plus he does help with laundry when needed, like for 3 a.m. emergencies, or folding while watching a movie or game, and I prefer to do the washing and sorting stuff myself. I actually don't mind the endlessness of laundry, as long as I don't let it pile up, particularly as long as I don't let it pile up right before a stomach bug hits my four-year-old in the middle of the night. And bonus, I don't care if my clothes or the kids' clothes are wrinkled, so I hardly ever have to iron! Plus, I have a room to pile it all up in and my very own machines to wash and dry it in. And, happily, barfing is not a regular ordeal for us, or hasn't been so far. So it could all be much worse.

By the way, I was looking at "laundry" images on Google and was blown away by the beautiful laundry rooms that exist out there. If I had the motivation I'd take a picture of my own laundry room for you. Maybe I could send it into a home decor blog. Anyone who's seen it knows it's a special treat. What better place to clean your clothes than the dirtiest (like the kind of stuck-on dirt that you can't really clean) unfinished basement dungeon room in the house? Someday maybe I'll have a gorgeous laundry room but for now I will maintain a sense of humor about mine. And be glad I have one of course. Perhaps a clever wooden plaque hanging by a ribbon, with some kind of saying about laundry on it, would spruce the place up a little. Or vinyl decals on the sewage ducts?

I've always coveted a "gorgeous" laundry room too. But I should just be glad I have one. When Bonny was born, our apt. building had a washer, but no dryer. So I hung the clothes in the boiler room - they dried pretty quickly.

I like doing laundry. I do it about every two weeks only because I have to drag it all over to my parents house. It would be wonderful to have a washer/dryer in the apt. When we were in Maui there was one in our hotel room and I did laundry everyday. I loved it, warm towels right out of the shower.
