Twice in the past week we have enjoyed 65-degree temperatures during daylight hours. And noticeably dry air! My windows were open all day today!
Fall is slowly (slowly!) slowly (slowly!)* on its way in. This means that in between bouts of unseasonable September-October heat that refuse to be shaken off, we will soon be looking at long sleeves, denim, and shoes. Among other things.
Oh and it means a haircut for Theo, hopefully before school starts. And buying Theo new shoes, hopefully before school starts. It means a birthday party for my October baby who will in fact be a 2-year-old sporting a binky. Come on, it matches her shoes!
It also means sweaters... socks... boots... candles... Spicy Peach Jam... planning Halloween costumes and Thanksgiving side dishes... going to Michael's just to wander through the aisles and smell everything.
It means making Spicy Ginger Cookies during general conference. (which, since I am not pregnant, have been demoted from the original title "Jump Start Your Labor Cookies"... I love the still-new tradition, which I started just days before Ida was born, of making these cookies during October conference.) It means lots and lots and lots of trips to the park and generally as much time spent outside as possible. It means a trip to the gigantic, campy pumpkin patch with gigantic, campy slides and a haunted hayride, all of which for some reason appeals a whole lot to me.

Sorry - didn't get the reference, probably because I score like a 2 on pop culture.
Fall means lots and lots and lots of fun with friends at the park. Genevieve has already begun practicing crunching the leaves she find on the sidewalk. Remember the great day at cox last year - http://when-i-get-home-today.blogspot.com/2009/10/cox-farms.html
Super Excited for fall - that is what I am: http://when-i-get-home-today.blogspot.com/2009/10/photos-of-day.html
Thanks for sharing such a fabulous fall-like evening with us! I feel very special.
I don't know the reference, but fall does make me want to buy school supplies. Bouquets of newly sharpened pencils.
I wish fall meant cooler weather here - we have to wait for November for that!! (It was 101 degrees today!!)
For me fall always means school - I don't think I've ever had a year when someone wasn't going to school in the fall. Maybe for a few years between 1970 and 1975. Otherwise, either the kids or yours truly has gone to school in the fall.
I wonder what it will be like when I retire? Maybe I will have to sign up to take a class just to keep the streak going!!
The reference was kinda lame and I actually am not 100% sure where it's from. I know it's either a Queen song or a Freddie Mercury song.
Or, could also be an Elton John song.
I shouldn't do references like these when Hannah is on vacation...I need help.
I have no idea about the quote, but I do love Fall. We have been feeling it in the air in the mornings. Love, love, love it!! Ida looks so grown up, love her hair.
One of my favorite parts of Fall is going to Michaels among other things. I just love fall.
Man, no one got MY reference either. :(
Ida could not be any cuter. It is 107 here today so cannot wait for fall and a trip to Michaels.
I totally got it, Alex! No-brainer! Sorry I didn't comment on it. I never miss a You've Got Mail reference and that is a fact!
I love You've Got Mail - and Sleepless in Seattle.
Did you ever see The Little Shop Around the Corner? It's a film from 1939 that was the basis for You've Got Mail.
An odd film - but nice for comparison purposes.
love it. esp "sneaky old fall." you are a born writer.
What a nice compliment! Thank you.
So--I found it. "The Golden Boy" by Freddie Mercury and Monserrat Caballe. Probably about as obscure as I could have gotten. I thought it was from like Bohemian Rhapsody or something.
If any nerds are interested, the part I am thinking of is at 4:30 of this video: The Golden Boy (Live)
I mean, 4:40.
I listened to a lot of Freddie Mercury and Queen when I was growing up (thanks to my dad)...that is my only explanation for the mixup. "Barcelona" is an amazing album if the thought of glam rock and opera combined intrigues you.
hey eliza, that's a freddie mercury reference, ICYWW. (haha.) i knew before you said it!!!
