Today this song came on randomly in my car. You may know that it is my favorite Christmas song of all time. I love it. It made me want to put a Christmas tree up in my front window Right Now.
Last Christmas...staggering our way through Handel's Messiah at the Kennedy Center... I want to go again this year but I think if we do, we'll be leaving Ida with a babysitter. Last year it started at like 8 p.m. Yeesh.

This happens every year. If I could be objective about it, summer would trump winter every time. I just handle heat so much better than cold. Every January I would trade icicles for mosquitoes in a heartbeat. Yet, every July I get the urge to pull my sweaters down from the top shelf of the closet. I love, love, love summer but right when I start to get a little tired of feeling like I need to take another shower within moments of stepping out the door, I remember how awesome Christmas is and I start getting excited. I am especially excited this year because it will be our first Christmas in our own house. Too bad there's no fireplace, otherwise it just might be perfect.
Well, I know that Christmas has to end sometime and then we're faced with seemingly endless cold and darkness. When that time comes I will be cursing the snow and wishing we could be sitting outside sweltering and looking for fireflies past the kids' bedtime, instead of watching the sun go down at 5 p.m. and counting the minutes until it's not too early to put them to bed. So I am going to enjoy the rest of summer. Really. All 100 degrees of it. In fact I think I'll go have a popsicle right now.
I think my kids like summer better, too. They cry when it gets too cold and only last a few minutes in the snow, but never once have I heard them complain of the heat and they'd play in the pool for hours if it were up to them. Although today when we walked out the front door Ida did turn to me squinting from the sun and say, "Hot."

Must be the California in their blood.
That wading pool looks great. Looks like you are having a fun summer. I was just thinking about how much I love Fall. I always look forward to it even though Summer is great.
That's funny, I was just telling someone that I wished it was Christmastime. So much fun to be a kid during the summer, I'm so jealous!
I miss you all - seeing the pool made me nostalgic - but not for the heat!! I'm loving this Oregon summer weather!!
that was the weirdest image to choose for that video. is it supposed to be bethlehem or something? disney resort bethlehem?
# of days over 90 degrees.
So far this summer: 34 days
All of last summer: 6 days
Ugh! No wonder. I was thinking that maybe last year, since Ida was so little, I spent more time inside and that's why this year seems hotter. But no, it actually is hotter.
Oh and I was confused by the video image too, I could only think that maybe it is somewhere in Bethlehem??
And--I LOVE fall! It's my favorite season. The perfect in-between and so much to love about it, between anticipating Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the leaves turning, and Halloween and pumpkins, and candles and sweaters and cinnamon everything. Oh how I love it.
Christmas in the summer is my favorite way to celebrate as well. because it's all the fun, with none of the work or guilt for not working.
in fact a couple of weeks ago i said to the kids - "do you what's coming up?" and they all said "CHRISTMAS!!!" and then annika reminded me her birthday was coming. :)
