I am Iron Man

Sorry I never blog anymore!! Does anyone still read this?

So...what we have been doing...Phil and Lynnette were here for a week, which was AWESOME. They left this morning, which was not so awesome. Now our living room is painted, the offensively red wall in kitchen primed over, sod laid in the front yard, front garden planted, back deck repaired, light switch installed in the storage room, door hung in the storage room, oh yes and they did my dishes every night and watched our kids a bunch of times! while we, or I, did fun things or mundane things.

We also got to talk and hang out a lot, which was fun.

And Matt and I had a late-night date-night on Friday and saw Iron Man 2. Loved it! Go see both movies if you haven't. I really like action movies. Funny. Friday was the first time I've seen a big movie on opening night in years. Also the first time I've seen an 11:00 movie in years. That's p.m., by the way! It was fun, even if Matt and I were the oldest people there and probably the only ones not in school.

Next on the movie docket: Babies. I am so excited to see it. Hannah's in. Anyone else?

We also watched the 2 most recent episodes of Lost while P&L were here, which provided much conversation fodder.

Had a visit from my cousin Hannah over the weekend. Love her. She also did the dishes while she was here, although that is not the only reason I love her. Hannah and Robbie also visited which was a welcome and not unusual occurrence.

Talked to my brother Noah tonight, which I loved. It's his 23rd birthday today. I miss him.

Also, I was a little moody last week, or a lot, or actually I have been extremely moody and tense for the entire month of April. Lots of little things crowding into my life which I did not properly plan for. (e.g., being on the board of directors at Theo's preschool, really not sure what I was thinking when I said yes to that.) But I made a decision not to be stressed out, and it has actually been working. I love my life.

So, to recap: painting, digging, Iron Man, Lost, family, awesome life. Hope to be back to better blogging soon.

Don't be so hard on yourself - you can be crabby/moody/ecstatic if you like!!

I'm thinking it's best not to volunteer - that's how to save your sanity. If you did volunteer. It's harder to say no than it is to talk yourself into not volunteering.

I wish we could be there to see Babies - I so want to go - Dad isn't too excited about it though.

I absolutely did NOT volunteer! In fact I was asked multiple times, and I waffled every time until I finally said yes. Should have said no from the beginning.

Glad to see you are back! I want to see pictures of your hard work. I might possibly need your advice soon on places to live in the D.C. area. There is a job at the National Gallery that Chris is looking at, so we might be moving there in December. Oooo it would be fun!

I understand the not being able to say no thing. I have had multiple positions on the PTA board over the last several years, and I agreed to be treasurer of both the PTA and the music boosters next year for his new middle school. Yikes!

Also, I am so excited to see Babies. My friend asked the other day if I was going to see it and my husband from the other room goes, "Its called Babies. Have you met Jenn?"

Also, Lost is awesome.

Also, a good friend of ours moved to DC recently, so there is a good chance you will get a visit from the Salas-Conway-Rose family in the (probably distant) future!

I am a sucker for all things baby.

Action movies are cool.

I have a painting question for you: I saw the ikea wood kids table in a photo of Theo and Ida's room painted a fabulous turquoise...Did you paint it? I have one I got on CL I want to paint. Any pointers? Did you paint before assembly? Spray paint or regular?

I want pictures of all these home improvements! And, Aaron and I saw Iron Man 2 this last weekend (also really late) and I loved it too. And lastly, I think it's funny that your "bad" blogging is my good blogging. You still update more then most people I know.

Hey, thanks Katie. It's actually acrylic paint...which I don't think you are supposed to use on furniture, but I did. It's a mix of several colors that I had in my paint stash...blue, brown, and white if I remember correctly. I just mixed it until I liked the way it looked.

I sanded the furniture, painted a few coats, and finished with a polyurethane sealant (which I would say is a must if you don't use glossy latex paint). It has held up pretty well. I did the sanding and painting one night, then the sealant a day or two later, then let it dry for several days. My suggestion is to be sure to let your table dry for at least a couple of days before using it. It's probably about a 3-4 day process for me every time I paint anything.

Talai--I was just thinking I should find my camera because I keep missing photo ops. And by the way, I want to see more pics of your place too!
