Lazing on a Wednesday afternoon.

My kids are both taking naps right now. They have been asleep for over an hour and in that time I have eaten lunch, read blogs, tidied up, and stared at the wall. Now I don't know what to do with myself. I honestly have nothing to do. (Except for a few really boring and non-urgent chores that I just really am not going to do right now so don't even ask me to.)

I wish that I could bottle up free time--extra time found on afternoons like this--to use in 5- or 10-minute increments whenever I wanted. Because, for the moment I am bored of the quiet, but in less than an hour one or both of my kids will be awake and for the next 5 hours after that, I will once again grow so very weary of shouting, "IS YOUR UNDERWEAR DRY? HOORAAAAAY!" and I will wish that I could lie down on the couch in the peaceful quiet all by myself just for a little while.

Ahhh, the joy of toilet training. Good luck!

One thing that also bothers me, is that I wish at times like these that I could remember all the things that I want to do but never have time to do. You know what I mean? It's like when you go to rent a movie (or build your Netflix queue) and you just can't think of any movies even though you know there are movies you want to see.

So clearly I need to start 2 lists, one list of movies I want to watch when I actually sit down to watch one, and another list of things I want to do if I ever have an extra hour to kill again.

I'm in the same boat right now. Jacob and Lia Belle at school, Phoebe is napping, I folded some laundry, and now catching up on blogs. Come three o'clock it turns into a race all the way to bed time. Actually, more of a countdown to bedtime.... and I just hope I can keep up with them!

so... how is the toilet training going? i almost wrote "potty," but then realized that I really don't like that word. did you end up having to put towels around the house?

robbie - thank you for not liking that word.

and good luck!

I also don't use the word "potty" very often and I'm not sure why. Probably because my parents always said "toilet"...but they also used very technical terms where I freely say "pee" and "poop." So, I don't know.

All I know is, I am not the kind of person who is ideally suited for teaching another person how to use the toilet. This has become clear. I have zero patience in this arena. I think it is my need for order and control, because I think that I am actually pretty good at being patient when teaching other skills.

It's really too bad that Matt can't be in charge of this particular task because he is SO much better at it. Really.

I never liked "potty" - which is why none of you like it. Not sure what you have against "wet" or "defecate" though!! (lol)

You will grow from this experience - you were somewhat difficult to toilet train - you were someone who didn't like relinquishing control to anyone!!

Training Ida will be a snap - Hannah was!! (I had learned patience from you!!)

Good luck - tell Theo we love and miss him - and think he's a "big boy!!"

THE D WORD SHALL NEVER BE USED AGAIN

Oh, I have a feeling that pretty much everything I put my parents through, I am in for with Theo.

And I will be interested to see how it goes with Ida. I have a feeling she will be a snap too. Especially since she wants to do everything Theo does. Case in point, the past 3 days she has been walking around clutching the front of her diaper and shouting, "DRY!" ever since she figured out that when Theo is dry, he gets a cookie.

Not an actual cookie, BTW, but a piece of Cookie Crisp cereal. I think these are disgusting but my kids are enthralled by the "tiny little cookies."

I love pictures of crying babies. And I will continue to love pictures of crying babies until I have one of my own... or maybe I will love it even more.

"Is your underwear dry?" Ahh, those kind of days. I think it must be a family thing to say toilet and not potty. I know it was in my family and I think I can trace it to Grandma Terrill. Though you might also have Grandma Clayton's influence.(I'm not sure, just guessing)

It was "potty" in the Clayton household!! It's pure Terrill I think!
