One day in the checkout aisle at Target, when Theo was a baby, I found a Doodle Pro (I always forget and call it Magna Doodle) with a magnetic back, meant to stick on a locker or desk or fridge. Theo loved it so much I got another one when Ida was old enough to enjoy it. They were maybe $6 or $8 each. They paid for themselves a hundred times over. Do you know how many times a one-year-old can put one of those on the fridge and then pull it off again without getting tired of that activity? I don't either because my babies occupied themselves endlessly with those things. At some point in the past year we misplaced both Magna Doodles, and I think it was while we were traveling. Or maybe while we were at church. Or maybe at the doctor's office or in the car or pretty much anywhere, because it was the perfect traveling toy and now I can't find it anywhere except Ebay, and so of course now that they are apparently discontinued I have lost them both.
I could just buy a boring old travel-sized Magna Doodle but I want one (two, actually) with a magnetic back and it just bugs me that I can't find any. Sorry for being whiny. But sometimes when I post about these things on my blog, you magically find them for me: e.g., Berry Blossom Teen Spirit. (I have had about 15 gifted to me in the past 2 years. AMAZING!) Or, a Raggedy Ann for Ida to match Theo's Andy. (One of you found one, and I bought it. Ida loves it.) There's nothing you bloggers can't find--right?

I will keep my eye out - although I don't "browse" eBay much.
We should get Polly on the alert - she would probably find 10 of them at a garage sale or something!!
I just bought one yesterday for Sterling Henry. It is not magnetic and it is in the shape of a Christmas tree. The two you had seemed very cool. I will keep an eye out for one!
ta-dah!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320414461820&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=M*F%3F&GUID=408ab8541200a09c18802a80ffe638b0&itemid=320414461820&ff4=263602_263622
oh you said you already found it on eBay. Sorry. And I was so excited!
why don't you just buy a travel sized magna doodle and then get one of those magnetic strips with adhesive tape on the back and stick 'er on there?
There are a variety of solutions to my problem, but in reality I just want Fisher Price to keep manufacturing the item that I desire to have at hand in the Target checkout aisle.
But, thank you for the Ebay tip, Alex (I had seen it on Ebay but for twice as much) and for the magnetic strip tip, Hannah. I thought of the magnet thing also, but again, the principle of the thing...plus I don't know how well an adhesive magnet would stay. I would need a really heavy-duty one.
Also, most travel Magna Doodles I see have Dora or Buzz Lightyear all over them, which bothers me aesthetically as much as I hate to admit that because it makes me sound snobby.
I am with Hannah. They make pretty decent magnetic strips.
I have some magnet sheets (not strips!) that you're welcome to have if you're interested. They are self-adhesive, but if you're worried they won't stick you could always use superglue.
i am with hannah as well on this one.
I suppose you people want me to start buying my own belts to wear with my pants instead of buying pants that come with belts.
