Movies

Just about daily we make smoothies, which Theo pronounces "movies." Theo used to be completely suspicious of smoothies until about a month ago. He is also somewhat bribable now when it comes to food. I am enjoying this new frontier of mealtimes. The promise of a cracker or a strawberry gets lots of nutritious food in him that he would never touch before. Don't get me wrong, there's still a lot of food that he won't eat.

The messiness of these pictures reminds me of my nephew Ethan last Christmas. "Um, Aunt Eliza? I thought you should know that Theo is getting food all over himself and he's eating with his hands." Yeah, six months later we're actually still working on the successful use of the fork. He's a pro with a spoon, but his current method for getting food on a fork is not spearing, but picking up the food with his opposite hand and placing it on the fork. Baby steps. Speaking of which, that is Ida's baby food he's holding, not his own. Phew.

Ida enjoys "movies" too.

Maybe a little too much.

They are featuring smoothies at our Enrichment this week.

If there are any good ones, I will share the wealth, as they say.

That second to last picture of Ida really looks how I remember you as a baby. Funny!

What kind of smoothies? Any original concoctions?

Funny you should ask! I have been meaning to try a recipe from a friend that includes the usual suspects as well as spinach and cabbage.

I usually put in whatever fresh fruit I have, add a cup or so of plain or vanilla yogurt, always a banana too, and lots of wheat germ and flax seed. I don't add ice, just use frozen fruit to make it cold. I also discovered that I like to stir in granola so that it's even more like a dessert. But I am interested in putting veggies in there too, I just need to adjust my own palate. Theo and Ida don't know the difference.

Personally I prefer the extra tart blackberry smoothie with just plain yogurt and tons of blackberries. (OK, a banana too) But you have to like tart to like that.

BTW if anyone has good smoothie recipes, pass 'em along.

I have been adding sherbet recently. Dunno if that is SOP or cheating or what. But it tastes good.

Theo looks a little like The Joker or perhaps a surprised clown in that first shot because of the jam smile.

I love the panicked look in Ida's eye. It says to me, "Hurry drink before mommmy takes it away!"
