Ease my troubles, that's what you do

When I was little and desperately wanted long hair, my mom told me...very diplomatically, I am sure...that my head was too small.

And, as usual, she was right. My hair has been short for so long now that to me, it looks like I'm wearing a wig in this picture. At first glance, my hair is like a third the length of my body.

Freaky.

Speaking of tiny heads. I wish that I had a copy of my first-grade school picture (when I had longish hair) to illustrate her point even better. My head was even smaller and my hair even more overwhelming.

Speaking of overwhelming. I wonder sometimes if my long-hair days are over. It seems kind of sad to think so, but seriously guys. Aside from the fact that I can't style long hair to save my life: blow-dryers. HOW do you blow-dry long hair day after day without setting your alarm clock half an hour early? Or is that what people do?

Speaking of blow-drying. Matt and I watched One Fine Day the other night (inexplicably) and I remembered how, when I was a 9th-grader watching it in the theater, I wished for Michelle Pfeiffer's hairstyle. Little did I know that 12 years down the line, I would pretty much have it, though not on purpose. It's what my hair does on its own when I wait too long to schedule a trim.

Speaking of One Fine Day. I also remembered how I just HAD to have the soundtrack for that movie. (Who wouldn't?! "Have I Told You Lately"; "Mama Said"; "The Boy from New York City"; the country hit "Love's Funny That Way"! "For the First Time" by Kenny Loggins!) I don't know about you but when I just HAVE to have something, sometimes I pull out all the stops to get it. It was true when I was 14. Somehow I convinced my saintly dad to take me to Barnes and Noble at 9 p.m. on a school night to scratch that particular itch. Will I be such a saint when Ida is 14?

Speaking of the One Fine Day soundtrack. I still have the CD if you ever want to borrow it.

Speaking of Mom telling you that your head was too small to have long hair, she told me that I wasn't patient enough to have long hair. I want to know the truth!!

Speaking of One Fine Day, I wouldn't mind listening to that soundtrack.

And speaking of blow dryers, I couldn't be bothered with long or short hair now. Although I hear it is very faux pas for me to go out in public here with wet hair. So sue me. There are a lot of other glaring things about me that scream "AMERICAN!!!"

Speaking of Dad taking trips to buy CDs, I HAD to have the Rugrats soundtrack and Dad ordered it online for me the day it came out. One Fine Day is a lot more dignified, if you ask me.

Speaking of dignified. Dad also bought me The Wedding Singer Vol. 2 soundtrack...I think maybe from Penny Lane...after much begging from me. As I recall I "had" to have it because it had "You Spin Me 'Round" and "Space Age Love Song."

Rugrats, huh? Actually, I think I remember that. Remember The Faculty soundtrack? Why were we so obsessed with soundtracks? I'm glad Dad didn't mind.

I would l-o-v-e to have the sort of hair that allows me to scrunch'n'go.

Speaking of scrunch'n'go (a word I just made up). I think I really need a copy of that sibling studio portrait from 2000. I'm PRETTY sure you know what I'm talking about!

I just cut my hair today. Well, Jessica did it. She did a great job. The tricky thing with long hair is that once it is long you sort of forget that it is getting longer and longer and longer every day. And this can be a problem, esp if you are short.

I love short hair, but my face is too big and round for it. I wish I could have your haircut.

Your sister's comment about wanting to know the truth about why she couldnt have long hair was hilarious.

Yes, that is what longhaired people do. The early alarm-setting and painstaking blow-dry. That is why I have worn my hair back almost every single day of medical school.
Minuses = looking like I don't own a mirror.
Pluses = when I actually style my hair, I get many compliments.
You know you've sunk pretty low when people think you've done something special because you wear your hair down.

I should be fair to my mom. She never said I couldn't have long hair due to the size of my head. (Although she did say when I was very young that I couldn't have it until I was old enough to take care of it myself.) I'm pretty sure she said something along the lines of my face being hidden behind my hair. Which it was...

I pretty much don't remember saying any of it.

I do remember blow-drying your hair as little girls - and I thought it was darling.

I also remember Yellow Balloon haircuts.

I remember YB haircuts too. I also believe that Eliza is right about the taking care of it ourselves. I also believe that I look like a small boy in my childhood pictures. But it's okay.

Hey I went to the Yellow Balloon too!

That's not where the infamous pre-6th-grade butchering took place though. So as not to sully their reputation.
