Savin' our pennies for someday

Movin' Out Billy Joel

Matt and I are buying a townhouse, which is just across the street from where we live now, and if all goes well we are closing 2 weeks from Monday. And I haven't even started packing yet. AAAAHH! We have been working on this thing for several weeks now but only this week did we give our landlord notice. What was holding us back? I don't know. I guess with a few things still up in the air with the sale, we were/are a tiny bit nervous about it.

I think I was also held back a little by denial. As excited as I am about this new adventure, there are a few things holding me mentally back. One is the budget tightening. Ouch. Another thing is the sense of permanence or at least long-term-ness in being away from most of our family, although staying here is the smartest economic choice for now. Another thing is that we have lived here in this condo longer than either of us has lived anywhere since we were kids ourselves. Here we brought both of our babies home from the hospital. Here those babies learned to walk and talk.

I know, it's like half a block away and I'm talking like we're leaving the country. And don't get me wrong...although I am sometimes sentimental and sometimes nervous about the move (and always sad about leaving the pool and the double oven), I am also very excited and happy! So...whether or not this darn sale closes, we are...movin' out!

Congratulations! One of the great things about moving is cleaning out accumulation. I need to pretend I am moving. Homeownership is a good thing. Enjoy!

Ahhhhh congratulations! I understand the permanence factor which is what we're trying to figure out right now. Don't know where we belong just yet. I'm excited to see pictures of the new place. Good luck with the packing.

Congratulations! Although I am sad that means you will be living there longer and not moving out west in the near future. Moving is stressful, whether you move across the street or across the country. I totally get the sentimentality. I still cry at least once a week for our home in Vancouver....though I am happy to be here.

Congrats!!!!!!!!

Change is hard for me also no matter how small. At least you have great pictures and vides of your kids where you live now so you can have the memories.

How exciting to decorate a new place.

Congratulations! I am incredibly jealous about your upcoming home ownership. I'm looking forward to that... in about twenty years.

I like your two super long couches, they look way comfortable! I'll be interested to see if it will improve your life with kids because there will be more room for them to roam.

I didn't know you were buying? So exciting! I have never looked back since we bought our place. Although you tend to catch the home improvement bug once you move, at least I did. Sometimes Aaron and I have to remind ourselves to stop thinking about paint colors. Well, congrats. I hope the moves is quick and painless.

YAY!! How exciting!

And I am one person who does not mind that you will be on the east coast for the foreseeable future. Even if I hardly ever see you. But maybe in a couple years I'll live in NY again (or DC?) and I can see you more. And of course you have a standing invitation to visit NH!

Oh my goodness, that is a big step. You should totally stress out about it, signing your life away. Just kidding, won't it be nice to totally "Elizafy" your place?! I wish we were there to see it because I'm sure it will be more than darling.

Thanks for your kind comments everyone. It is a bit of a "fixer upper" you might say...and mostly in very uninteresting ways. Now if only I could get as interested in plumbing and drywall as I am in paint colors and flooring. That's the kind of stuff I don't like to think about but I will have to learn about anyway.

Big news! Congratulations! I know what you mean about the sentimentality of it...I still miss and have fond memories of our first apartment together.

Good luck with everything! Can't wait for more updates.
