So, I'm sure there comes a point when anyone listening to me complain about my neighbors starts to think that the problem might actually lie with me. I have contemplated this, and decided that if having high standards is a problem, then that assumption is correct.
I love my neighbors. Perhaps "love" is too strong a word but we do get along, despite all of the cigarettes and stinky food and stairwell-screaming and parrots and all-night TV-watching and--latest development--mariachi music that blares so loudly from the next building over, we can hear it in our apartment with all the windows closed.
Last week I decided to capture on film the sonorous warble of our neighborhood parrot, who lives across the yard from us. His bedroom window faces our back door. This parrot--I think it is a parrot?--is a very large white affair with some sort of feathery headdress. He (or she) is the loudest and most long-winded bird I have ever met in my life. He and his owner go on leisurely strolls about the grounds--and when I say leisurely I really mean that she takes about 10 steps per minute. Also she likes to wear skintight white stretch pants, which could be beside the point, but don't you think it enhances the story?
Also, the part in the video where I say "Yeah, whatever" is the part where the bird's owner tried to tell it to stop screeching or she would "leave" it. I am skeptical because it really does screech almost constantly some days. I imagine it is like a family member to her and she can't bear to part with it, or maybe she can't afford to get it therapy or send it to obedience school.
Enjoy the video and imagine hearing that lovely whistling/screeching All...Day...Long. I think it's time to lower my standards of neighborhood peace, or maybe I already have, since the bird is still alive.

did I hear the bird lady say that she "doesn't even like you" to the bird itself?
Wow. What can be said to that? It sounds like you live in a rain forest. Which would be nice, had you chosen to live in a rain forest. Isn't there some kind of "loud obnoxious bird code" from your HOA or something? Wow.
You did hear her correctly, Hester. I think she was just being awkward about how loud and obnoxious her bird is. Poor little bird.
I hear you about annoying neighbors, but I just wanted to say that your side "updated daily." badge is so very cute!
There is so much loudness at your complex. I remember one time waking up to what I thought were cicadas. But they were actually just gardeners who apparently come every single day.
I can relate. We have neighbors who let their German Shepherd dogs out into a tiny little backyard every morning. They bark from 8:00AM when they let them out, until about 5:30 PM when they let them in again. It would be bad enough Monday thru Friday, but we even get to enjoy their barking on the weekends. I have decided the dog owners may be deaf!
That is crazy. I think I would probably find a way to poison the little bird if it lived by me and that is what I heard all day long. I know that sounds terrible, but seriously, you should consider it!! :)
