Best cousin

Have I mentioned how fantastic Ida's timing was?

I felt my first big contraction on Saturday night, just before going to sleep at around midnight. I woke up at 1:30 and they were 5 minutes apart. Sunday morning she was well on her way. My beautiful cousin Hester dragged herself out of bed after 2 hours of sleep and arrived just as Theo was waking up...so Matt didn't have to leave my side. (Trust me, the few times he did, he was sorry.) She told me later that every time she could hear my moans/yells coming from the bedroom, she would grab Theo and start singing "Wheels on the Bus."

We left for the hospital at about 10 a.m. and Hester stayed with Theo. She fed him lunch, put him down for his nap, took him to the park, fed him dinner, brought him to the hospital to meet Ida, put him to bed. Because it was Columbus Day the next day (a day off from work--Ida's timing!), she spent the night at our house and did the whole routine again the next day until Matt took over that night.

When we were younger Hester and I called each other "best cousins." The moniker has continued into our adulthood...especially since she keeps being the best cousin. No offense to my other 70 cousins. (okay, maybe not 70...maybe 65. does anyone even know??)

I'm pretty sure the number is 61.

And Hester is indeed a best cousin, a wonderful niece and a great friend.

Let's hear it for Hester!

We love Hester. She rocks.

And I thought the number was around 170.

Who knows, really.

Okay, Barb knows. And she's usually right.

There are lots more great-grandkids than their are grandkids. that number is over 100 I think. There are 56 Clayton grandkids, but my kids have to subtract 6 from that, because they aren't their own cousins. There are 17 Terrill grandkids, so they subtract 6 from that too. Which makes 61.

Now the real keepers of the numbers are Joan and Donna - who read the blogs I am sure, but don't comment much.

Maybe we should all email them for some clarification.

Babs's number was what I meant--as in, how many cousins I have as a Terrill and a Clayton. I always forget the total of Clayton grandkids though.

thanks for the love Eliza! Theo and I are totally tight now (when he doesn't do his nervous routine)

Best cousins forever : )

I am proud to say that I knew the cousin number. But that is mostly because I just talked to Aunt Joan last week.
Here 's to Best Cousins!

I knew it but I was off because I was counting ourselves in it. I was like, "Don't we have 73 overall?"

Awesome.

I'm so glad I was 'in on the love.' So most of you don't know me. "Sarah J" stands for Sarah Jean, but I got to bunk with these awesome cuz's (ya, that's right) and Hesters other cousin for a whole 4 months. It was the BEST college experience. I say that with no reservations and in all honesty. I was able to see how your families are so tight and beautifully woven. Thank you forever and ever for being the "best cousins" in my whole wide world!

Marin #12 was indeed a magical time...

You forgot to mention how you christened Hester "the Beautiful One" of the apartment. Ah, memories.

Hester said...

yeah, she christened me the "beautiful one", if I recall correctly, because she felt people didn't notice that about me.
