Last Friday we took off for sunny, I mean rainy PA. It was a bit of a task to find our way from the freeway to the lake (and back again) in the fog but we enjoyed really beautiful scenery, and lots of old cemeteries. And farmhouses. I remembered how creepy I think Pennsylvania is, especially in the rain and fog. (Me and M. Night Shyamalan.) Matt reminded me of the story I once planned to write about a humble Amish man who, apparently tired of the quiet life and perhaps suffering from some form of seasonal affective disorder, inexplicably went on a killing spree. In my memory said character was named Amos Standish, but Matt insists it was Miles Standish. Except, I don't know why I would choose that name, since didn't Miles Standish come over on the Mayflower?
The boys played man-games at the lake for awhile. From what I could tell, this consisted of throwing cinderblocks and/or pushing each other under the water.
Theo loved this lake, aka pool, in his words.
Cute kids.
and another cute kid.
Our cabin--we switched to cabins at the last minute due to the pouring rain on Friday--came equipped with a tiny little TV in its tiny little room, perfectly sized to prop in the window. And it also came with Versus, of all things. It may not be a surprise to you, given the group, that not only was the BYU game on, but various college football games stayed on into the night.
Our tiny little porch fit all 8 adults perfectly, plus assorted children.
Need to keep Theo from running into the road while you roast your third s'more in a row? (hypothetically speaking) The car is always an option. He loves playing in the car.
Cute James and Mel
Sterling is great with kids...and also likes to feed them s'mores until they can't take it anymore.
Jake zoning out.
Cobble me this. (nice job Matt)
That's all I've got unless you want to see that picture of Sterling and Dave hugging again. (Scroll down a few posts if you do.)AnnDee and Taylor, thanks for being good sports about being woken up all night, both nights. More specifically, sorry that Theo cried at least once an hour all night, both nights. Jess and Sterling, thanks for providing delicious breakfast victuals. Melanie and Dave, thanks for arranging the cabin (and the campsites) and for coming equipped to deliver babies should that be necessary.
Matt and Theo, thanks for putting up with a slightly cranky wife/mom (crankiness due solely to lack of sleep).
Theo, thanks for napping well and sleeping all night since we've been home. Yes! That is, until last night. No!
Everyone...let's go on trips together more often.

Sounds fun - except for the not sleeping part!!
I love the thought of cozy little cabins!
At least it wasn't me waking you up with my snoring!
I just realized how ghosty Theo looked in that one pic. How appropriate given the creepiness of rural PA.
I just laughed out loud at the "creepiness of rural PA"- that's good. what an awesome trip- you looked so so so cute and I can't wait to hear your girl/boy news!
I love the name Amos.
And I am due for my semi-annual in-law visit to creepy rural Pennsylvania in November!
PA is sort of creepy. I'm totally going to go rent Sleepy Hollow from the library today and get donut for my kids. They'll love it! Happy oct. 1st. I hope you have baby news soon. I can't wait to hear/see pics.
The trip was great and 1 seriously couldn't chose another 7 people together that are more fun as a group to be around. It was actually a very relaxing trip -- and don't appologize for Theo -- we have 2 little screamers too, and just felt lucky it was yours this time instead of ours. :)
GOOD LUCK!!
