My decor preferences change a lot, ahem, maybe too often for some people (named Matt). Luckily it seems acceptable to enjoy, for example, mid-century angles with some Rococo swirlies thrown in. Then there are my color phases...last week's mustard and ketchup is yesterday's chartreuse is today's pale aqua is tomorrow's mustard and relish, and sometimes I'm tempted in the direction of concrete-gray walls and airy white textiles. But in general, I have no idea what I'm talking about with any of these things (except for the "swirlies" of course, definitely a term of art) and for lots of years I have really just been feeling the inspiration from this:
and this:
and also the cover of a purple Edith Piaf record that I can't find a picture of online.
Someday I plan to have at least one minimalist room (enter the gray and white dreams), but until I have the space to spare, that can't happen. I just have too much colorful junk that I love.
Theo's room is also a bit of a disaster these days but I have a vision that will, in theory, bring it together by October with a few things shipped out, a few shipped in, and a little bit of elbow grease. Fortunately, although it's somewhat disjointed for now, the colors in there, inspired by...
...still bring me joy.Speaking of which, one of my favorite pages from any children's book is:
"If you become a bird and fly away from me," said his mother, "I will be a tree that you come home to."
What inspires you?

I'm not sure what inspires me.
If by inspired you mean that something comes of it!!
Minimalist rooms inspire me, but they don't seem to happen around here much!!
Everyone seems to really like the red in our front room but it kind of feels overdone. Not that I'm ever going to paint, since we're leaving in the spring anyway.
Nevertheless, we still have a couple of things that inspire us. We have Elisabeth and Zacharias in our brown bedroom, and that kind of matches. I've also got a still-unframed poster of a harlequin of Picasso that Robbie and I both really enjoy, but we can't figure out how to frame it without it looking tacky.
And then Robbie gave me a Brian Kershisnik print for my birthday (this one), so that will hopefully give me some inspiration.
As for books... not really sure. There is the stack of picture books that I enjoy, like the vintage copy of The Cat and the Devil that you gave me a couple of years ago... I enjoy the illustrations in that one.
lots of things inspire me - i will have to give it more thought to put it into words.
but i like your new title font.
I am kind of done with red but I like it as an accent color. I rarely like it as a wall color.
Thanks Bonny...but I haven't changed the title font so maybe you have a new computer?
Also, don't know what to tell you about the tacky other than to just frame it and get used to the tackiness. At least you will be able to enjoy the picture for now.
Peter's Chair is such a great book! I love the colors as well (except for the pink they paint the baby girl's chair! To bright!)
Whenever I feel the urge to paint or redecorate I first think of a time when we painted until 3:00am then discovered it was awful. Then I rearrange a room. It may just be the kitchen table or moving a plant from one window to another, but it is surprisingly satisfying and it doesn't cost a thing nor cause stress.
As for what inspires me? Hmm, if I had to choose just one theme it would be gardens. (My wedding was supposed to be a beautiful storybook garden setting, unfortunately it was in Southeast ID.)
The way I see it is you just can't go wrong with tans, browns, rusty reds, blues and greens. I have an afghan and a quilt designed with these colors and nature in mind.
