I don't buy sweets to keep around the house, but I always have the ingredients. Then one day I get in the mood to bake, and then I have all these leftovers to deal with. I have been limiting desserts and packaged foods, since to be honest I can eat a quart of rocky road and call it a filling meal (it's the almonds, I tell you, they make it so hearty). But I get these cravings and all of a sudden I am living in a bakery, but without any customers. Maybe if I made 1/8 of the recipe?
Don't tell me to freeze the dough because that still doesn't work, I'll pull it out and bake it if it's there.
I made a key lime pie on Sunday and Matt and I had one slice each. Four days later it's still sitting in the fridge, tempting me.
Actually it wasn't that good--it was a 3-ingredient recipe from Real Simple. It's okay but really sweet. And it's probably even less good after having sat in there for so long. But I don't want to just throw it away. Every time I open the fridge the same cosmic question echoes in my head: "Which is a bigger waste, throwing the pie away, or eating it even though I'm not enjoying it enough to justify all the sugar?" I know the answer and that is why I'll probably toss it tonight.
I always make too much when I get a hankering to bake. At least with cookies I can bring them to neighbors or people in the ward. But who's going to want a partially eaten pie?

I have been on a baking kick for the last two weeks since my morning sickness has ended. Thankfully my older kids are more than happy to help out in the eating department!
Everything sounds good so I have been cooking and baking up a storm, I need to cut back or I'll have a ten pound gain in one month!
I actually had a tiny slice last night and I think the age has helped it! Although, it could have just seemed less sweat because I had so little.
whenever you're in the mood to bake but not eat, just give us a call, we'll call it a play date with yummy treats that just happen to be lying around for us to consume.
Um, not on the pie topic (I don't like key lime pie) but I had a Frosty Shake last night and the jury is still out on it.
I will eat your half eaten pie any day!!!
Invest in small pie plates, even single serving and then eat what you want and you and Theo take it to someone. There is ALWAYS someone who could need a visit and a bit of a sweet. President Monson's mom was always baking and giving away and it remained with him for his entire life.
I agree. Who wants a piece of a pie that has already been partially devoured. I must admit that once or twice I have almost taken a half-eaten pie to someone else, just so they would eat it and I wouldn't be faced with the dillema you just described. Having said that, Eric is always in the mood for pie (full or partial) but I am not always.
love the bttf quote. also always loved the jailbird cake.
glad you got the reference, alex. i love bttf, with all of my love.
