Laying Theo down to bed is one of my favorite things. Getting him ready for bed, that's another story, but the little rituals of putting a sleepy child to bed are always so sweet.
So is it "lay" or "lie"? I originally wrote "lay", but thought that was wrong and changed it. Obviously I don't remember this from my school days, but you should be able to tell me, oh wise English major. Actually, I can probably assume the correct use is "lay" since that's what you used in your comment. Silly me for worrying.
I'm not such a fan of getting ready for bed either. Teeth brushing is the worst right now!
"Lay" is a transitive verb (it's something you do to something else: the subject lays the object) while "lie" is intransitive (it's something you do: the subject lies).
It gets even trickier, because the past tense of "lie" is "lay." The past tense of "lay" is "laid."
One way that might be helpful to remember is "Now I lay me down to sleep."
...keeping in mind that that is sloppy grammar; it should be "Now I lie down to sleep" or if it must be transitive, "Now I lay myself down to sleep." But for meter's sake, "Now I lay me down to sleep" works the best.
At this point, you may be wishing you had never asked.
Great beach pics and like always- you look beautiful! I'm sorry to hear Theo is a allergic to peanuts- that is a bummer for you both!! hopefully he'll be that lucky 1 in 5 that grows out of it, and like you said, it could be worse...but I still am sad for you/him.

I sing that little ditty to Jacob every time I lie him down to sleep. Great pictures!
Stacie, I love it! What a cute tradition.
