Step by step

You may or may not be familiar:

Step 1. (we can have lots of fun)
Take a yummy strawberry. You can either cut off the top or hold it by the greenery, I am fine with either.

Step 2. (there's so much we can do)
Dip the yummy strawberry into sour cream. Not cream cheese or Cool Whip or fruit dip or any of that stuff--that's cheating and it's not as good anyway. I am talking about sour cream. Don't be squeamish.

Step 3. (it's just you and me)
I mean really cover it with sour cream.

Step 4. (I can give you more)
Roll the yummy strawberry + sour cream in brown sugar. The more brown sugar the better. You should barely see any strawberry or sour cream, there should be so much brown sugar on there.

Step 5. (Don't you know that the time has arrived)
I think you can take it from here.

Repeat as necessary.

You can feel virtuous about this delicious dessert because you are getting vitamin C from fresh fruit, along with your sugar and fat.

I first had this tasty combo at my mother-in-law's house long ago (it is also popular at many a Relief Society gathering) and I am sure that she is not as obsessed with it as I am. I consider it the perfect fruity treat (grilled peaches with ice cream is a close second) for summer . . . or spring, winter, or fall.

By the way I am pleased to report that a Google Image search for "red ripe strawberry" brings up the cover of Don and Audrey Woods's ...The Big Hungry Bear as the number 1 result.

Is there some reason why this is a Fast Sunday post??

Haha. Actually today was our stake conference so our fast Sunday is next week...so I hadn't thought about that!

I just bought a pound of strawberries on Friday and the whole thing was demolished (mostly by me) by this afternoon. That prompted the post.

mmmm strawberries.

our family LOVES those berries of the straw - except for Bruce - who only likes them if they are perfectly ripe and sweet.

Someone was just telling me about this treat the other day. I thought that they were kidding. You've now convinced me step-by-step to try it! :)

Oh it's no joke, Lys.
