Friday was my last day at work. I was pretty sad at first, which is funny, because I thought I wouldn't really miss it. Of course when you're leaving a place is when it's easiest to embrace all the good things and ignore anything bothersome.
By the time I left I was smiling, though, because I got to go around and chat with and say goodbye to all the friends I've made there, and I just love how cool those people are. It was a good place to be and perfect for my situation, being in school especially. I had a great boss and flexible hours and learned a lot. I was blessed to spend 2 years there, despite any minor annoyances (which pretty much come with any job, right?)
I left a little early because I had scheduled an ultrasound and my last visit with my OB here, and 1:30 was the only time I could get in. If I were less lazy I'd scan a photo and post it . . . however I don't feel too bad about it because it's pretty much your standard blurry series of ultrasound photos, although on the screen when it was moving around and we could hear the heartbeat and see how much it had grown since our last ultrasound, that was pretty amazing. I'm a big proponent of ultrasounds--that's when it seems the realest to me that in about 20 weeks we're actually going to have a child.
Anyway, we decided not to "find out" the girl or boy thing, although it was tempting, being right there. The fact that everything is apparently fine so far (heart, spine, etc.) more than made up for that, though. That's all I really cared about anyway, although for a few hours after the appointment I kept trying to guess whether the ultrasound tech could tell (she said she wasn't even going to try to look. What a nice lady. Do I believe her though?). Now, though, I'm glad it will be a surprise.
Also, my new due date is January 2 . . . which made me laugh a little, because the old one was January 5. How can they tell the difference? Does it really matter? Oh well.
This has been a very "Dear Diary"ish post.
We've spent the past week watching the first season of Lost instead of packing, so I'd better go get to that. Packing, that is. We're taking off early Wednesday morning, so the next time I post will probably be from DC. See ya then!

Saying good bye is always more poignant than we realize it's going to be - there is something about endings.
But when it comes to endings, there is usually a new beginning that goes with it!
Ultrasounds are very fun. It is quite amazing to see the baby moving around and nice to know everything is ok. And let me just say that ultrasounds have come a long way in the last 19 years! It is pretty funny when your due date is changed all the time, it has happened to me a few times. Don't worry it could move back again!
Oops! Jeff and I watched lost last fall. We liked it. It is easy to put off other things while you are tied up with lost.
Maybe I'll take a picture of it for you, Katie. That's easier than going downstairs and logging on to the basement computer to use my in-laws' scanner. Which isn't that hard either, but that doesn't make me any less lazy.
My OB has an old, small ultrasound machine at his office that he's used on me a few times. It's a far cry from the high-tech big-screen one that the technician uses. So far our due date has changed from December 11 (that was way off, obviously!) to January 11 to January 5 to January 2. It will probably be late anyway, so oh well!
I do love Charlie, so I was so sad when Boone found the heroin in that plane. I haven't seen season 2 yet so I don't know what's going to happen with that.
OK, back to packing. When did I get so much stuff?
Speaking of TV shows on DVD, I'm trying to decide if it's worth it for me to watch season 2 of Veronica Mars and Lost when they come out on DVD in August and September in order to catch up for season 3 to start. I'm thinking I'll be brain-dead if I try to do that in such a short time. But it's tempting. They're my new favorite shows.
We are saving Lost for when we move to Portland and don't have any friends for a few months. Everyone keeps raving about it. I feel so behind the times!
I can't imagine you being without friends for more than a few minutes!!
Glad to here that everything is ok with the baby. My due date changed several times, finally ending on July 23rd. He came on the the 13th, so they really don't have any idea. I think they are just messing with us anyway!
Don't forget that you're not just saying good-bye, you're also saying HELLO! TO MEEEE!! :) I'm so excited to have one of my oldest and dearest friends out here on the east coast with me. And one of my oldest and dearest friend's burgeoning families. See you soon, I hope!!
