I recently received the pic on the left from my buddy Paul. This was taken on a train in Slovakia in September 2002. I won't lie, I truly enjoyed that year's mullet. OK, the tan too.
The pic on the right was taken in a kitchen in Utah in October 2005. Almost as exotic a location. Quite a similar pose. Yet in this picture I was older, wiser, and so much whiter. Healthier in almost every way, actually. And still a bit mullety.
My super-tan days are over, but I wonder if I can ever undo the damage I've done to my skin in my short little life. Poor little skin. Maybe I should wear bangs forever. Help to hide the wrinkles.

Maybe it's the social correctness, but I find tans less attractive now - especially those that have been gotten by "tanning" rather than just working out in the sun.
I used to tan - and I used to lay out - and I used to think it was attractive. But with all we know now, it seems a bit foolish and vain.
And I hope I didn't harm myself too much!!
I actually don't really enjoy lying out for more than 20 mins or so at a time--it gets too hot. I'd rather get a tan from being in the pool or ocean. And I hate burning (I used to be proud of sunburns because they turned into tans. Gross).
That's how I got my fiercest tans, was spending hours on end teaching swimming lessons.
And I miss doing that, too (teaching lessons), but I don't miss having to wear hats and sunglasses all the time and reapplying sunscreen every 2 hours. That gets tiresome.
i know it's politically incorrect but I still like a tan. Not too dark, but some color. It just seems healthier.
AND I LOVE Don Henley - at least when I'm wearing my Wayfarers.
like 'em tan, and bony--with some self-esteem problems. paris hilton taught us that is hot.
