We're Gonna Go Where We Can Shine

I have a hard time understanding how anyone can _not_ love David Gray's music...although I know it's possible, for I live with one of those people.

Kingsbury Hall, March 14th. Hannah's in. Anyone else up for it?

I know, I know...hardly anyone who reads this, probably, due to musical taste or geographic location or somesuch. However...you can at least shoutout and say, "I love David Gray too!" or "I will repent immediately and begin listening NOW."

I'll even send you some CDs or e-mail you some 'Tunes if that's what it takes, as long as you promise to love him.

Song of the hour: Shine - David Gray

I can honestly say that I have not heard of David Gray but I would be interested in what he sounds like. Is he really that good?

Oh, dear me, Melissa, you must give DG a try. Yes, he really is that good...well, actually, a lot of his songs are kind of an acquired taste.

BUT, the album "White Ladder," which is his most popular in the U.S., is a good one to start with. You might have heard the song "Babylon" on a movie preview or something. Listen to a clip on Amazon--I like "Babylon II," the last track of the CD, better than the first version. My other faves on that album are "This Year's Love," "My Oh My," and "We're Not Right," and "Say Hello Wave Goodbye." And...all of them...except maybe "Sail Away"...

He kinda reminds me of an Irish Bob Dylan. Maybe that's blasphemous to say. The album "White Ladder" is a little more electronic than his other albums, which are mostly folkish.

Also, maybe to sort of give you an idea of the type of music he plays, check out music-map.com--type in David Gray and see where it takes you.

I won't be offended if you don't love it, but...well...what's not to love, really. haha.

BTW, DG is actually Welsh, not Irish. hahaha. But he kinda sounds Irish on his angrier, more Bob Dylanish songs.

Says the American, who wouldn't have a clue anyway...

I'm not sure if you're joking or not about "Sail Away." haha. I actually like it fine, but my first copy of White Ladder was a burned copy that for some reason didn't include that track. Then I got another copy with all the real songs on it, and I heard that song and was like "What the?"

Mostly, I don't like that a lot of it is the exact same melody as "Please Forgive Me," which (I think) is a much better song.

I just want to say that I went and looked up David Gray and listened to some of his stuff. I actually liked it(not that it is suprising). So thanks Eliza for introducing me to something I wouldn't have found on my own.

Guess whatty? Eliza, you inspired me. Actually, I had no idea DG was doing any kind of performances. But I checked online and he was scheduled to appear in LA in March. And what did I do? I bought two tickets!

Right on, Melissa and Nicole!

Geekily enough, I am a member of davidgray.com. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have known about the March show in SLC--he was supposed to play in SLC in October, which I did know about, but then apparently he got sick and postponed the show (until March) which I did not know about until I got a handy e-mail from davidgray.com.

Anyway. Happy listening, all.
