Music Makes the People Come Together…Yeah.
Today’s downloads:
Bleed to Love Her – Fleetwood Mac
Brass in Pocket – Kelis
Jet Boy – New York Dolls
Let’s Stay Together – Al Green
My Father’s Gun – Elton John
Operator (That’s Not the Way It Feels) – Tori Amos
Out in the Streets – Shangri-La
Slip Slidin’ Away – Paul Simon
Trash – New York Dolls
The verdict: good choices, all. Don’t try to fight me on this.... Okay, maybe fight me on the covers. Kelis...I kinda like her version more than the Pretenders’—is that blasphemy? Probably. As for Tori Amos and Operator, I haven’t actually heard her version, but I love the original and thought I’d give hers a try.
I haven’t actually downloaded any of these yet, except the NYD songs. But it’s in the cards.
New York Dolls and Shangri-La DLs = inspired by the doc New York Doll. Good movie! Hannah blogged all about it, should you like to read more. Or follow the link on my sidebar.
Yesterday I learned about the Fugees’ next album, coming out December 27. I’m excited to hear it! Yay. The first single, “Take it Easy,” is online—a little bit reggaelicious and drum-machine-heavy for my taste, but I’m not judging yet.
Also, Fiona Apple’s new album (Extraordinary Machine): I’ve just heard samples but so far it has great reviews, and Matt’s a fan too. I think I’m going to buy it.
Also—new Neil Diamond album (12 Songs): Departure from glitter and showtime, return to the singer-songwriter role? I haven’t heard any of it but read several positive reviews. I think it may have just come out today.
Okay, back to my homework. iTunes is really more of a curse for me than a blessing, at least when I’m trying to get any work done! I’ll be so glad when I finally have my degree (7 months from now). Truly. Not only because that will mean I can get a better job, but also because it’s getting increasingly hard for me to go online and only work on school. It’s too tempting to “work” on other stuff simultaneously (blog…DL music…etc.).
Going.

I'm jealous, I wish the New York Doll were playing here.
Nice downloads.
Bleed to Love Her... what a good song! Remember it from season 2 of Alias? (or maybe it was season 3).
Marcy... maybe it'll come soon. Great flick.
Season 2. Vaughn and Sydney ice skating.
I only know that because I just watched that season on DVD...a few months ago. I'm not obsessed.
Well, actually, I'm really not, anymore. Not since Vaughn died. Bye, Alias.
I want to read Hannah's blog about NYD! How do I get there? And how did I miss hearing about this movie until yesterday at church?
Well, the only reason I heard about it was that I live in Utah and go to the movies a lot, so I saw a trailer for it a few weeks before it came out. And then my sister Hannah (who’s at BYU) recommended it. I think it’s been sort of a word-of-mouth thing.
Hannah was a superfan. I've gotten lazy with my linking lately, sorry!--Here’s her blog. The post re: NYD is called “Hello darkness, my old friend.”
