Ah, the turmoil.

I know I probably do this EVERY year, but I just wanted to mention that 3 years ago today was my first date with Matt. Amid some February turmoil.

"February 6, 2002

"No boys like me! They may ask me out once or twice, but after that it's ancient history....None of them want to kiss me or hold my hand, and it's Valentine's Day next week! I've caught the disease, I admit it. I never used to care about Valentine's Day at all....[But now] I don't know what to DO with myself anymore!!!

"It's so sad. I am officially the most pathetic person in the world. Okay, maybe not the WORLD. But I'm pretty pathetic.

"Something kind of weird, I'm going out tonight to the hospital. Yeah, I dunno. This guy who I kind of know, and who is also kind of weird but really funny, asked if I wanted to go get some hot chocolate at the hospital with him tonight. We'll see how that goes.

"And it doesn't matter ANYWAY, because NO BOYS WILL EVER LOVE ME! Haha. I just need Valentine's Day to be over with."

P.S. Saw Mean Girls last night. I had to watch a recent YA film for my YA Materials class, so that was a good excuse to rent it. I thought it was pretty funny. Not as funny as everyone's been saying, but decent.

I can't get over how funny that seems - you ask a girl to go get hot chocolate at the hospital! I mean, the reasoning is sound - seems like you could go get hot chocolate at the Cougareat -why the hospital? It's odd to me that you didn't even say anything in your blog about how odd it is to go to the hospital for hot chocolate! (Is this something EVERYONE at BYU does?) All this talk of hot chocolate makes me thirsty for some! We just got home from Ara's baptism, and the house is CHILLY!!) P.S. The baptism was a wonderful event - we'll have to have someone do a blow-by-blow on the blog or something! We missed you too!! (and Matt - and Hannah!)

Matt just thought he was funny.

Which he was. Is. He took lots of first dates to the hospital--a safe, short visit, which could become a long visit if the conversation was good. Hot chocolate is cheap. And the hospital cafeteria is quirky, yet not too quirky. And if the girl thought the whole thing was a little too weird, why, then she wasn't for Matt anyway.

I thought it was pretty weird. But we were still able to move past the hospital and go on real dates after that.

Kacy and I had an early date at the hospital -- her idea. We went for shakes because it was late spring / early summer. I don't think it's a BYU thing though -- is it? I'll have to ask Kacy why we went there.

Matt went for shakes in the summer too, actually. I don't know that it's a BYU thing--I haven't talked to any other hospital-daters.
