Songs
Nicole got me thinking about this album. My aunt had the record when I was little, and I remember listening to it a lot.
Isn't it funny how songs stick with you? I'm a huge fan of old Elton, but for me, none of his songs quite compare with "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" ( although "Benny and the Jets" and "Rocket Man" come in a close second and third--then of course there's "Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting" and "Someone Saved My Life Tonight"...but let's not get started on this). It just reminds me of being little and safe and happy. Well, I'm still safe and happy, but it's a different kind of safe and happy. I don't know. "Memories..."
Speaking of songs...ever notice when two songs sound almost exactly alike? The music, that is. A few examples:
"Some Things Never Change" by Tim McGraw
sounds like...
"Save the Best for Last" by Vanessa Williams
"Cool" by Gwen Stefani
sounds like...
"Only You" by Yaz
"Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera
sounds like...
"One Moment in Time" by Whitney Houston
"Father of Mine" by Everclear
sounds like...
every other Everclear song
And so on. Those are just off the top of my head. Obviously there are tons more, because there are only so many ways you can combine notes to make them sound good. It seems like the older I get the more a lot of stuff on the radio sounds the same. But I guess that's the way it's always been, I just haven't noticed as much.
P.S. Attempting to listen to the songs through the roundabout way I've provided (links to amazon.com clips) is a little frustrating (I know because I just tried), so don't feel compelled to do so. Maybe just listen the next time one comes on the radio. Listen, analyze, then agree with me.

Did I tell you that Dad got me a cd player for the kitchen - under the cupboards over by the phone. It is pretty cool - although I'm so used to not having one, that mostly Noah puts his stuff in and then I notice it because I don't particularly like it!!
It also has a message feature - I can leave up to 5 messages on it - so I could leave instructions for Noah when he gets home from school. This would have been really handy 5 or 10 years ago!!
I agree on all your musical comments. Especially your ranking of the Elton songs. I LOVE goodbye yellow brick road, even though as a child I had no idea what he was saying...not that it makes sense now that I know what he is saying...but still great nonetheless. I also really love "The B@#$% is Back," --how can you not?
