"Reigning champion of the geeks"
Remember my diary project? You would not believe how much stuff I wrote in high school. Every single thought I had, it seemed, got written down in this huge journal. I've been reading it for almost 2 weeks now and still haven't finished.
So, I gather from my 13-, 14-, 15-, 16-year-old musings, apparently the first couple of years of high school, I dressed sort of sloppily. Very sloppily, actually, and I wore the same things over and over - those were the days of Birkenstocks with socks. I also cut slits in the cuffs of my pants. I also had three or four ratty sweatshirts I wore over and over. I had forgotten about all of this, but at the beginning of my junior year in high school, I decided to be more creative with my clothes.

OK I just need to start off saying that I have not weakened and I still have not worn the same outfit to school twice! That, naturally, makes me reigning champion of the geeks.
It's so funny to re-read this stuff and remember my thought processes. Anyway, so I wrote down what I wore to school every day. Every Day. And I never wore the same outfit twice. I have it in writing.
Sadly, the same cannot be said for me today. I often wear the same clothes twice; nay, three or four times within a few short days. But I also try to be creative, and wear them in different combinations so that people don't notice that I wear the same things over and over again. But one thing I don't do, which I think I did in that infamous junior year, was wear ugly stuff or stuff that looks bad on me solely for the sake of variety. I think you can still be creative with a few articles of clothing - that look nice - regardless of a tight budget. Which I've always had. Forced me to learn how to be creative. Though I've lost the desire to be so creative that I wear jeans that are too tight, shoes that need Super-Glue to stay together, or a shirt that was cute for a few months in 1994, just to add variety to my wardrobe.
I'm happy to admit that I realized my goal made me reigning champion of the geeks.
That said, I realize now, once more, that that reign has not stopped. I carry on as champion. Anyone who reads my blog knows this.
Anyway, to get your mind off my materialism, here's another entry. Me at thirteen. Trust me, this is a good one.

You know what, I'm kind of pissed off right now. We got this thing in the mail that said my mom was a $1,000,000 winner of this sweepstakes thing that she had entered, and of course I had to go show my dad and get him all excited about it, and then when you look at it, it says this:
BARBARA T. IS A $1,000,000 WINNER!!!
Notice that the BARBARA T. part is huge and the rest isn't. I'm so mad at those people, because they had me and my dad thinking that we had won a million dollars. My dad even said, "Eliza, I want you to realize that before we even get into this, I won't let it go to my head. I'll keep going to work every day just like normal."
I hate to see my dad that disappointed. I'm so mad at those people now. I thought my dad was going to cry.
Tee hee.
I can't believe
1) that I was that gullible at 13, or
2) that my loving, caring, serious dad thought it would be funny to mess with my mind.
haha. You need to know my dad though. He is loving and caring and serious, but he's also very funny. I wonder whether he knew I actually believed him, and he was teasing me, or if he thought that I was smarter than I was and that we were both kidding around. My guess is the former. At any rate. No one can ever say I can't laugh at myself. Even if it is 8 years later.
Music: Life on Mars - David Bowie
(I'd also like to give credit to Kacy for the fact that for the past 2 days a Led Zeppelin CD has started playing every time I start my car.)
Love: pumpkins. We bought some last night to carve. Hooray!

Eliza, Kacy told me about this entry in your journal but I had to read it for myself. Hilarious.
