Thanks for the friendship group.

10 p.m.! Just getting in under the wire for today's post. I am up way past my bedtime. After Polly was born I started going to bed super early because she slept a long stretch at the beginning of the night. These past couple of months as Polly has ramped UP the evening wakeups...shouldn't it be the opposite???...I have slowly gone to bed later and later until I hardly recognize myself anymore. I was so proud of my early-to-bed skills. I haven't given up on them yet though.

Anywho. Theo goes to this social skills group once a week with a handful of other boys his age. The therapist calls it a "friendship group," which I think is sweet and perfect. The group is super awesome and I love it. It has been GREAT for him. I kind of think we could all benefit from a little friendship group now and then. This is the type of stuff they practice in the group:

This is a list of suggestions of things to do to "Feel Just Right." As opposed to "Feeling Red Hot." I love it. You may remember that the kids and I implemented that first suggestion a few years ago (but at the time we thought it was our own bright idea...) and it is still in use at our house--Ask for a Hug: http://lizer.blogspot.com/2011/11/if-mr-rogers-had-blog.html

At times I complain to myself that it's just "one more thing" we have to get to on a weekday after school (in addition to piano lessons, soccer, Cub Scouts...) but I would never trade it. It is so worth it. I'm super thankful for the friendship group and the many ways it benefits our family!

I could definitely use a little card I carried in my wallet reminding me to ask for a hug or ask someone for help. For sure.
