Theo turned three almost a month ago and after finishing up the flu and slogging through toilet training, we finally got around to celebrating with friends. I think little kids' parties are so fun and cute, and I always love seeing new ideas from Martha Stewart or OhDeeDoh or Parents magazine. However, I have felt less than up to the task so far, so I have not done anything fancy for anyone's birthday yet.
For instance, last year for Theo's "party" we invited a bunch of friends to meet us at the local mall play place. What can I say, Theo loved it, and zero prep or cleanup, minus copious amounts of Purell on every visible skin surface on my kids. Too bad January isn't park weather. Anyway, so this year for Theo's belated birthday "party" we invited the kids in his joy school group plus his buddy Em to come visit the local fire station with us. Hilarity ensued. Have you ever seen a fireman up close in full fire getup? I had not until today and it's pretty intense.
Oh, and if you decide to take your kid to visit your local fire station but you want to prep them by showing them pictures of fire fighters, definitely don't just type in "fire fighter" on Google Images with your child on your lap. That is a PG-13 experience. What happened to the "safe" filter, Google?

of course i went and performed the same search. pg-13 is a little too mild, wouldn't you say?
Cute picture with the fire truck, too bad my grandchildren are the only ones not wearing the hats! But then I don't like hats either. I am not going to the fireman search.
ugh, you're right Hannah. Nobody go! Why did I even mention this??
Well, of course, I am going to go check it out now.
Fun party idea and I love your purple jacket.
Over the years, I have taken several groups of small children - and even the Young Men/Young Women one time - to the fire station. Glad you had a good time!!
They all looked absolutely terrified of that fireman. What a fun birthday party idea!
What a perfect idea for a January birthday. Way to go Mom!
Just catching up on blogs, and was surprised to see a picture of my cousin (Janet Johnson) on your blog! I love the small Mormon world :) Tell her that her cousin Betsey says hello :)
