I thought of this yesterday when I was writing about Uber Chic for Cheap but felt it deserved its own post: while we are on the subject of fashion blogs, I also love Cardigan Empire.
I don't know how people have time or energy to read tons of blogs, but I guess I kind of know, because I go in spurts. I will go days or even weeks without reading these random home design and fashion blogs and then one day I'll spend 2 hours scrolling through them all. I leave feeling inspired, and also my eyes are a little glazed over, but anyway, details.
I wanted to recommend in particular this post about Closet Analysis from Cardigan Empire. Having gotten rid of half of my clothes and half of my shoes earlier this year--yes, I did it--I have nothing but the highest praise for such an activity. It feels so good to make space in my closet and to find better homes for the clothes and shoes I just didn't wear enough because they didn't make me feel great. It feels even better to wear only clothes and shoes that fit properly and are not completely out of style yet.
Enjoy.

I have been purging my wardrobe of late - and it is indeed liberating.
Wow, I'm impressed. I need to go through my own closet as well. At least with all the shirts. I had to go through my jeans / pants last year when the rack collasped because it was too heavy.
Oh, I got rid of so many pants! I realized I was wearing the same 2-3 pair regardless of how many hung in my closet. That was liberating. I also realized that no matter how inexpensive the pants, or how cute, I shouldn't buy them unless they fit well. If I plan to hem them, I just won't. Even if I do, I rarely like how the hem looks.
I definitely recommend the 5-pile method. And/or having a goal like getting rid of a certain percentage. 50% might be extreme, but it worked for me. It feels great!
