In the name of love

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

"It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it."

Find my favorite MLK story of the day at Mel's blog.

  1. That is a good story. It is interesting to me that many kids today - even black kids - have no clue about Martin Luther King Jr. They really do need to be taught!

Sounds like that teacher did a good job!

  2. Hey Eliza, as far as the transfer to the toddler bed, I really have no tips. The first couple nights were a little tricky but after that they get used to it. I think it helps that Grace doesn't realize she can get out without our permission. Good Luck

  3. At my (all white) high school we never got MLK, jr day off. In fact, we were the only disctrict that didn't. Our administrators said that we could learn more and celebrate our differences at school than at home watching tv or in the mall shopping. Well...they would be pleased to know that i actually remember the guest speakers they brought in. One man was an orator that gave, verbatim, a speech in Dr. King's "voice." Quite moving and memorable. Us teenage, white kids complained and said that if there were any minorities in the District that this would never happen b/c there would be some sort of protest. Maybe there would have been, but I actually remember every MLK day symposium. and truth be told...I really liked them
