Hurrah, hurrah

There are ants living in my dishwasher. Well, below my dishwasher, or next to it, or something. Anyway they come out through the dishwasher and invade my kitchen. After a good scrub-down and some doses of Raid, they are gone for a few days or weeks and then they come back if I miss so much as a SPECK when I clean up after Theo eats. This did not happen last spring. Maybe because Theo wasn't eating real food yet then?

Why do they do this? It's not like I did anything to them! I mean besides killing all their friends and relatives who came before.

Of course they are harmless, except that it's disgusting to have ants in your kitchen. Would I rather have cockroaches, certainly not, but that doesn't mean I can't complain about ants.

I just randomly remembered when we went to Texas for my brother's wedding 8 years ago and found in the middle of the night that our hotel bed was infested with red ants. Awesome!

I thought about putting an ant picture on here, but looking at the options grossed me out. You know what ants look like anyway.

you need to become one with the ants. Little bitty sugar ants have been living in my apartment for about one year now and no matter what I do I can't get rid of them. I have just taken to putting everything in the fridge or freezer. And they actually live in my dishwasher because when i open it when its only half loaded they are in there. I always feel a little bad when I run it.

We've had the same problem twice in our house. Matt bought some bait that really seems to have worked this time. Supposedly they eat the bait and take it back to the group and infest them all. Ha ha ha! I know, I'm terrible, but a house is no place for ants to be. Good luck with that one!

You live in an apartment. You should be able to contact the front office and they should send in a bug guy to kill all the little ants for you.

At least, they did when we lived in an aprtment. And if they don't, seriously consider terminix yourself. We had a huge ant problem this past month - terminix got rid of all of them for me!

Hoorah!!!

(as mine were crawling all over my stove top and counter (seriously, no kidding there were no less than fifty ants on the counter one afternoon scouting) and I couldn't take it anymore! I was cleaning with bleach, vinegar and even lemon juice! All home remadies were tried.)

Gross. Any woman who has a kitchen and uses it can totally understand why this is a problem! Yes, they are harmless but any bug in the kitchen is gross...we know all about bugs so you have all out sympathy!

Ants are pesky. Mice are also pesky. We had mice at our last house. You could always here them running in the walls at night.

I wouldn't want either.

Good luck exterminating them!

I feel ya man, sounds like you are doing everything I do. Have you tried the traps? The little bait things? I don't know if they work because we have ants eternally. The other day I found them invading the laundry room, what are they doing in there, eating laundry soap specks. What are these evil creatures. If I find something that works I'll let you know.

It's so funny to see the "Bee Movie" or "Bug's Life" or (Ants for that matter) and see how the 'real world' works. Perspective

But...you're right, nobody messes with the cleanliness of your kitchen but you. We too struggled with this and I would drown them out with a spray of windex. I'm relieved that other women share my affliction and that it shows no reflection of my cleanliness. Ours were coming in through this little hole right by my kitchen window. Finally, an exterminator came and sprayed inside and out. Sweet relief.

Thank your lucky stars it's not fruit flys (yet). Last year their eggs must have harvested in all the fruit we bought because the day after we would get it home they were everywhere. If it does happen I found a homemade remedy involving a jar and a piece of paper. Good luck!

Yuck--we had this problem continually in Abu Dhabi and nothing worked. But I'd try calling the land lord at the very least--who knows, maybe they'll send someone to kill them all.

Gook luck!

Yeah, maybe I should call our landlord. We don't talk to him much. When we first leased the place he indicated that he was giving us a good deal in exchange for being kinda hands-off. (We live in a condo.) Of course if there were ever a huge problem we would call him. But so far we never have. We even had a leaking pipe in our bathroom and Matt fixed it himself (which was beyond me, but I guess he wanted the practice).

Anyway, the ants aren't too bad. But they are PESTS! Sick.

I hate ants - I get that attitude from my mom - she goes ballistic over ants and flies - and the only thing that I've ever found that works for ants is an exterminator.

They aren't that expensive either.

But then they'd have to treat your whole building to have it work very well!

Try the traps - they work too.
