Now That's News You Can Use.

I've been "holding down the fort" since Matt's been in DC and Matt's parents have been in Bear Lake.

I enjoy coming home to an empty house and doing whatever I want. I enjoy being In Charge of household happenings, and I enjoy peace and quiet. After a few days, though, the complete silence starts to wear on me and I find myself standing in front of the fridge trying to decide which yogurt to take to work. I select Blueberry Patch, then think better of it and trade that for Red Raspberry.

"Good choice, Lizer," I say out loud.

Also, when I'm home alone, I often do silly things like watch 3 hours of a detective show late at night. I did this last night (Veronica Mars, my new favorite which totally isn't scary, but it kinda is when Matt's not home and it's dark outside). Why am I compelled to do this when I'm alone? Have I learned nothing?

So then of course I check all the closets and under all the beds before I go to sleep.

No one there but me. (phew)

In related news, most meals now take me < 2 minutes to consume. I see food and attack it, and suddenly I've eaten it all.

Also, no clothes in my closet fit me anymore, especially skirts. I expected this and I do think it's fun, but it seems to have happened overnight. I'm not big enough for maternity clothes, just big enough not to fit in my own, with no desire or cash to go buy bigger ones. People at work are making jokes like "You look like you swallowed a grape!" and I'm gratified that they haven't noticed the fact that I pretty much wear the same ill-fitting, half-buttoned outfit every day.

Everyone gets home today. I think I'm going to have to start eating a little more slowly so as not to gross them out. Otherwise, it'll be nice to have them all back.

ouch - those in between clothes are rough. although not a bad investment - you wear them again right after you give birth. So all is not lost.

and i LOVE being home alone. I wander around looking at everything all still and quiet. It's quite pleasant. rare now, but pleasant.

Yeah, I figured as much (about the clothes). Mostly I just really don't feel like shopping. Isn't that weird? My enjoyment of shopping for clothes went out the window long ago, along with my enjoyment of eating hamburgers. Who would have thought I would enter a phase of life where I stop caring about clothes?

Veronica Mars is the only hour long show I can watch anymore. My attention span has gone down hill and The Office is about all that can keep my attention. Veronica's witty comebacks give me the chuckles everytime.

I LOVE being in a house alone. I wander about, put things where I like them to be, talk to myself, eat a bowl of cereal (puffed rice preferred) and read the latest J.Jill catalog.

Usually I'm interrupted before I've gotten tired of being alone.

But I remind myself that the day will come when my days might be long and alonely, so I try to enjoy the interruptions!

I'm trying to remember the last time I was alone in the house. This is something I guess I will have to look forward to.

I like being home alone, but I can't watch TV late at night when I'm home alone because that scares me more than silence, interestingly enough. I've lived for so many years with roommates and then a husband and then my in-laws that I haven't spent many nights alone in my life. Lots of days and evenings, but not often all night with no one else around, not even kids.

Although I do appreciate that one big perk of sleeping alone is that I get to sprawl across the bed. It's a lot less roomy when you share.

I think I would appreciate being alone less if I were alone all the time. But it is nice to have a whole day or evening to get things done, or just to enjoy the silence, as Depeche Mode would say.

Also, I like Veronica Mars not only because she's just so cute but because no 17-year-old would ever do or say what she does. I love it.

Nicole, I do remember saying that you love V-Mars--if that's what you mean. In fact the reason I decided to watch her is that I read so many good things--in Entertainment Weekly, on your blog, and on other people's blogs.

Just finished the finale of season 1 last night. I was glad that this time Matt was nearby, because that killer was SCARY.

(I won't divulge who it was in case any unenlightened readers of this blog want to find out for themselves.)

But anyway the killer was SCARY.

I remember the finale ALL TOO WELL. Because I clutched my pillow oh so tight during the ending.

Season 2 comes out on DVD August 22 - which I have not seen ANY of since I started the VMars last Fall. So I will watch that within a week and be ready for Season 3 THIS fall.

I'm glad you like it! I think it's soooo great!
