Yeah, I know.
I was bored, okay?
Anyway, I watched it. It was about as exciting as you'd expect, but one of my favorite moments was when one of the contestants (Miss Virginia, I believe) was asked to name her pet peeves and she said her pet peeve is people who like to hear themselves talk. She rambled on for a minute about "Who's the bigger fool, the fool or the one who listens to him?" and said that when she encounters "people like that" she just lets them talk.
Okay, so maybe nobody likes a pontificator, but it seemed like kind of a weird answer for a Miss America pageant. I thought it was a weird question, actually--the other girls' questions yielded answers like "anything edible" (favorite smell!) and "french fries dipped in ranch dressing" (favorite snack that you've been avoiding during the pageant!)
Now that I've pontificated enough about that, here are my pet peeves:
-Drying my face with a towel used mainly for drying hands (sick.)
-Accidentally eating the stringy inside part of the peel that gets stuck to an overripe banana (just did that this morning)
-When men leave the toilet seat up (a cliche, but I still find it...not very genteel)
What are yours? I can't think of any others at the moment. Matt might be able to, though. By the way, he knows about peeve #3 and therefore always closes the seat and lid. Reason #8,756 why I love him!
Oh yeah, and in case you were curious, Miss Oklahoma won. She's the one who likes french fries with ranch dressing.

Little Harry accused me this a.m. of being too negative, so I hesitate to state a pet peever, per se. But one of them might be people who say they are coming and then don't come - to whatever they've said they were coming to.
Yeah, it's always good to accentuate the positive--especially when it comes to people. I think that's why I thought Miss VA's answer was funny, because their answers are always so PC and I would think that she'd pick a pet peeve like "I hate when the bus is late!" or "I hate when I run out of shampoo!" or something not about specific people.
But I thought of another one this afternoon, which is eating in the bathroom. I think that is SO WEIRD. More specifically, I'm talking about the bathroom lounge at my place of employment. It's right next to the stalls, the only difference being that it's carpeted and the stalls have tile floors. A few people go in there and eat their lunches. There's a little couch and a curtain, and people hide in there with their smelly food.
Talking on the phone in public bathroom stalls: also a tad weird.
So I guess more than a pet peeve, it's just something I think is weird. But I probably do things that other people think are weird, though I try not to do things that involve cross-contamination. When did I get so germaphobic?
Mostly the food thing bothered me when I was sick because I'd go into the bathroom at work and have to smell somebody's Chinese food or leftover spaghetti when I was in there. Sick!
i'm not sure what my pet peeves are - i'm sure i have FAR too many to list - but i was miss america for halloween one year - that was pretty fun.
See the Terrill blog for photo documentation of Bonny's brief reign as Miss America!
That's so funny what you said about people talking on the phone IN THE bathroom stalls. Why? WHY??
#1 pet peeve is being late to the movies. I can be late to anything else - work, school, church.. but the MOVIES? One cannot miss the previews!!
I like being early to movies too because I LOVE previews and because I hate sitting in the front row. Unfortunately I usually plan wrong and end up being there WAY early (and have to sit and watch the ads) or late because of unanticipated crowds (then I miss the previews AND I have to sit in the front).
Oooh, pet peeves. I have several, too many to list, but I'll give you a preview.
1. Marquee signs that are spelled wrong or missing letters. How hard is it to push all the letters together?
2. When the toilet paper roll goes down the wall, instead of up and over.
3. When the bed sheets are pulled up too high, so when you lay down they cover your face. They must be 3" below the top of the mattress for a perfect fit.
I have more, but I'll keep them in my crazy head. Carry on.
Ooh, I forgot about the TP roll. I'm the same way. It must be up and over--why would you put it hanging by the wall? It's just more work that way and it looks weird.
Pet Peeves:
#1 Bonny moving the frozen chocolate chip cookies around so I can't find them easily.
#2 Shin Splints: My body just doesn't cooperate in this regard. I can push everything else as hard as I want--but splints never go away.
#3 Consultant Jargon: I hate being on the same page, level-setting, being MECE (mutally exclusive, collectively exhaustive), having best practices, at the end of the day, opening the kimono (I hear this a lot, surprisingly), bringing stuff to the table, centers of excellence, reaching out to people, closing the loop, working on "deliverables" that are on the "critical path," drill down, and my all time inappropriate favorite--"drinking the kool-aid"
I Love jargon. Then again I don't have to hear it much, or use it. But it always makes me laugh.
What is . . . opening the kimono?
Oh, let's not forget the double dippers. I was on a group project in graduate school. Sometimes we would would work late, wo se would order in food. This one girl would lick her fingers off, and then rummage around in the rest of the community food, which was promptly thrown away by the team.
Open kimono--sharing all of the important stuff (information), even if it aint pretty.
