I was thinking about something I think I was told a lot as a little girl... smile and be kind and helpful whenever you can, because you never know how much it will mean to someone.
I've always thought that was kind of dumb. I guess I still do, but every now and then I have an experience like I did today on the phone, where the man "helping" me was NOT being very nice, and I asked to speak with his supervisor, and his supervisor was SO nice and listened and helped.
And whereas I felt like I was shivering under a raincloud while I talked to the first guy, I felt the clouds parting when I talked to the second guy.
And whereas I will continue to go on and on in this pattern of being easily offended by random strangers and loved ones alike, every 28 days for the next 20+ years, I am just going to have to start assuming that everyone I talk to is on their period and could use a smile and a friendly hello. Obviously everyone isn't, but someone will be. SOMEONE WILL BE!
Put THAT on a pithy little note at girls camp and smoke it.
I wonder how we COULD put it on a pithy little note at Young Women Camp - it might be helpful!!

ReplyDeleteNo smile and friendly hello will make me nice on my period but I like the thought!
